    I feel that the term “witch hunt” is much overused by politicians and the media, but in this case I think it’s applicable. When you subpoena two months of phone records with no specific target in hopes that you might find a name of someone that might have known something about something and might have called AP about it, you are engaged in a witch hunt. I wonder how many careers will be ruined by this because some government employee had contact with the AP for reasons other than the Al-Qaeda or Stuxnet leak but could be placed under suspicion.

    Completely authorized under the Patriot Act. No judge sign-off required either. Thank you, Republicans!

    @ossiningaling

    So investigating groups with Patriot & Tea Party in them is cool but sending ones with Progressive and Liberal to the head of the line is cool with you. And yes it did happen that way, check out politico.

    Welcome to the new order, comrade. Glorious leader Mr. Obama demands that you only publish his version of the truth from now on. Is okay with you, right? Good boy. Have some extra rubles (i.e. devalued U.S. dollars)

    @David

    David how about I call you a Demotrator, it’s easy. Also it is not one thing there are four.

    First most Tea Party groups are not 501c(3) they are c(4). That is a group that is tax exempt but donations to them are not tax deductable. So in short what do you care if someone gives money to them anyway? To top it off the IRS did send groups with Progressive and Liberal in them to the head of the line, and went after Jewish groups and Franklyn Graham church (you know Billy’s son). So there is a Racist & Bigoted issue here. Don’t believe me check Politico.

    The AP has 1st amendment rights, it is a legal person. You see how corporate laws protect you. Strong business is a way of breaking up the power a little and not placing it all in one place.

    Benghazi, people died and then Obama’s campaign lied to win an election. Freedom Of Speech means we have a right to know. You were denied that.

    This is a crazy level of incompetence and they thought they could get away with every single one issue here. What does that tell you?

    So even if Obama is honest about saying that big government is good (and I believe he is) he is not able to pull it off. And what happens in four years, do you want Republicans to be able to get away with all this. We are not half dead as some want to believe. We have the house most of the Governors and State Legislatures.

    Regarding subterfuge to win an election: this is certainly not without precedent.

    After Joe Leiberman lost the Democratic primary, he decided to run as an independent. During the run-up to the general election, his campaign’s computer system crashed. He blamed his democratic opponent for this, and accused him of dirty tricks/cover-up, etc.

    The FBI was called in to investigate. The conclusion was that Leiberman’s own staff crashed his computer system; it was not malicious, it was just someone doing something he/she shouldn’t have. Associated Press reported that, although the FBI finished its determination weeks before the general election, the Bush administration sat on the report so that Leiberman could continue to accuse his opponent of sabotage. The conclusion was not released to the general public (including the voting citizens of Connecticut) until after the general election.
