    The Framers tried to make it as difficult as possible to pass laws, so only laws that every decent person agreed with would pass.

    Now only laws that every decent lobbyist agrees with gets passed. Close enough for government work.

    Most depressing cartoon of all times. And one of the funniest I’ve ever seen. Strange combination…

    @Debt Free

    I get what you mean. As Tyrant in waiting I’m constantly thinking about setting up a new system of laws after i take over. The sheer amount of laws on the books in the U.S. is staggering, and then you have “case law” on top of it. No wonder you have so many lawyers!

    I’d cut it all down to six or seven rules based on the ten commandments, like, “THOUGH SHALL NOT KILL (or harm, or inflict emotional stress or anything, you know, dude? Mellow out, okay dude?)”. But most important would be rule #1: “DON’T BE A DOUCHE!” :-)

    Okay so the question seems to be , short of open season – how do we rid ourselves of a plague of lawyers and lobbyists?

    I just wonder how many people know what this cartoon is referring to?

    Morty, you’re not local so the inside joke might not make sense!

    Its a long enough page that I should add that you go down to “I’m just a bill” in the America Rock section

    A bill becomes a law these days when enough palms are sufficiently greased to slide it up the peoples…..
