I don’t remember the “Right to drive a vehicle” in the constitution.

We already have background checks. Now the government wants to check personal medical records to find out what medicine you take so they can decide FOR YOU whether you need a gun or not.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

Yes, we know that once all drivers are licensed, the government will confiscate all the cars.

Yeah, so what if the 2nd amendment calls for “a well regulated militia”. That part seems to be forgotten by many.

The Second Amendment is an extension of militia bills from the same time. They wanted armed civilians because they didn’t want to over-extend the army. The National Guard is essentially our “well-regulated militia” now. Original intent only works when you look into ALL the documents at the time, not just 3 sentences.

Do you know any rights OTHER than keeping a gun? Can you even NAME the four rights just found in the First Amendment (which came first for a reason)? Do you know how many infringements there already are?
If some of the Second Amendment absolutists spent as much time defending the First Amendment as the Second, I’d praise them.
But all they want is total and free access to guns, which is NOT, in fact, what the amendment says.
Try reading it. There is NO absolute right to owning guns.

The man in the cartoon needs to go to Louisiana.
A convicted felon contested his arrest after being found with a 40 cal and an AK 47 with a 30 round clip in his possession. He was released by the judge. If the ruling holds, a prosecutor said that ALL felons returned to prison because of gun violations may be retroactively found to have been improperly arrested and released.
That will make the Heritage Music Festival, Mardi Gras, and all the at home Saints games more interesting.
Guess I better get my concealed carry permit before I go visit the family.

If you wish to reference all the documents, perhaps you should include the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers. I think you will find that “right to bear arms” and “militia” are not conjoined.

We can have no restrictions at all on owning guns, because it’s a Constitutional right. Voting, on the other hand, we can slap all kinds of restrictions on because that’s not a Constitutional right… oh, wait… it is! Hmmm…

I don’t see anything about drones in the Constitution either, so therefore we should never try to regulate them.

the fact that you can express your views unimpeded on this comment board show that your first amendment right to free speech has not been infringed.

The fact that you can decide to join any religion you want and the government can not require you to join a specific one is proof that your first amendment right to freedom of religion has not been infringed.

The fact that the press (so far ) still has publications and outlets with opposing political views (though sometimes it seems media is in the tank for the left) and the government is restrained from shutting them down is proof that freedom of the press is still around.

The fact that Westboro Baptist Church can still gather at a cemetery and protest, mocking the death of casualties of war, that OWS can gather in droves to trash a city and that the TEA party old white guys can show up at town hall meetings is proof that your right to “peacefully” assemble is still allowed (albeit with the proper fees and permits in place).

Certainly there are a multitude of “laws” on the books that “regulate” all of these things as well as the 2nd amendment. (well it says it needs to be well regulated).

But when you ban things you only create a “black market” for that item and revenue for the criminal class in our society.

Just look at anything on the proscribed list and tell me no one can obtain that item if he so desires.

Bruce, get real. You can buy MANY guns. The most anyone is talking about is a reduction in NEW access to CERTAIN guns — a very small percentage, in fact. No one has introduced a “ban” that violates the Second Amendment.
And by the way, libel, slander, and “shouting Fire in a public theater” are all illegal.
