And all two syllable words are accented on the first syllable — as in PO-lice. Whereas in grade four (that’s a Canadianism — fourth grade in the US) the class decided that “towel” is one syllable — pronounced “ta’l”, of course. “Hand me the ta’l, please, so I can wipe up.”)
