Har har har. Occasionally I feel sorry for those dumb American kids we conned into going overseas and dying for our big business interests. But then I think of our profits and I stop that liberal silliness.

Yes, NeoCon, we have to remember that the sacrifice of a few thousand American Soldiers to insure Oil Price Supports, and Halliburton’s Profit Margins was TOTALLY worth it!
Why, I bet the Republicans are working on even MORE useless wars they can con more people into signing up for! After all, every Soldier that dies overseas means just one less person collecting social security, leaving more for the kids of Republican Congresspeople to collect. After all, THEY never go to war, just dumb people who can’t get daddy to get them a deferment….

I’d thank you NeoconMan not to insult them, or me as I was there once upon a time so to speak, for doing a dangerous and difficult job so that you can shop in air conditioned peace.
Begrudge them their Thanksgiving meal without insult if you would.

Yes, but twice a year you are hailed as a hero and the rest of the year those that stayed at home fawningly thank you for your service and for keeping America free. What more do you want?

I salute and honor Americans and our allies who fight for us and for our values. The lives of those men and women should not be placed in jeopardy unless it is for vital national interests.

War should be the last resort. Too often I have seen lives ruined and lives and treasure wasted. Resources misdirected, too. Worst of all: War begets more war.

Happy Thanksgiving, troops! I hope you come home safe, soon, and aren’t sent off anywhere on bad pretexts again.

Brilliant! Then Alex the Great, Genghis Khan, Russia, Britain, the Soviet Union will be saying, “dang, why didn’t I think of that?”

As a German i am grateful for what you did to/for us. But you are mistaken when it comes to our constitution, that was our own work. It was read very carefully by the U.S. and then approved, but we did the work ourselves, having learned from the previous mistake (Weimar).

And when it comes to Afghanistan i have zero hope for that country. I remember a scene i saw on TV. A whole company of soldiers were to be put on active duty after month of training. When they heard that they would not be “defending” their own villages but some other sector of the country, they ripped of their uniforms and went away, probably home. How can you defend yourself against terrorism with people like that?

    -

That country is corrupt TO THE CORE. And – worst of all – the United States is part of the problem. You guys flew in money, real cash, by the shipping container! And Karzai (and others) were flying out to Switzerland just as fast! Dear Lord, what did you expect when you hire “Ex-Taleban” to guard against the Taleban??? You haven’t learned ONE THING since Vietnam!

On Thanksgiving, folks here keep bringing up the “Puritans” who got kicked out of everywhere else, so they came here to make everyone worship the way THEY did! Americans think with our hegemony that EVERY country should also have our government, and “worship” just as we do, having the same economic and social structure WE have more or less, “chosen”.

The fact is this: most of the world does NOT see things the way we do. From “socialist” Scandinavian countries, to tribal areas in Africa, South America, and Asia, others find their cultures preferable, even in Afghanistan! The loya jirga that Karzai put together is a fraud, folks HE selected, NOT the quite democratic methods Afghans had for centuries when each village or community DID pick their OWN man to represent them, not some toady picked by OUR toad. Now the little imbecile picked by Condii has the audacity to think just because he was set in place by us to rip off his people, he can continue to do so?

The fact is most tribal areas ARE more “democratic” than the U.S.. That sexual discrimination isn’t that odd in any patriarchy, like Christianity, Judaism, and Islam, with even Buddhists often placing women in “second class status”. It’s interesting the sideways slurs aimed even at our women in Congress, mostly by the “rightest” of the “evangelical” types, and “strict conservatives”, just like in Islam, Judaism, and Christianity. The most dogmatic ARE the most descriminatory.
