I’m not quite sure how Federal emergency aid is justifiable for such a localized, small incident.

Because he’s Ted Cruz. He’ll vote to protect his own, and screw everyone else. Welcome to the tea party.

heard that the fertilizer company had more than 1350x the legal limit that would trigger a DHS inspection. that with no zoning laws, residential, schools, and hospital were within 2000 ft from the plant. that the company told local officials that there will no cause for alarm and the damage will be minimal.

Agreed. Rattlesnakes are, in the main, quite honorable creatures, and Danziger should not be insulting them in such a fashion.

Is it daffier to reject federal aid to a large area devastated by one of the largest natural disasters ever while voting for aid to a small town devastated by a private firm’s accident OR to point out the discrepancy? It seems you think the latter.

Thank you for the list, Ansonia.
While I believe giving the President the power of line-item veto would be unbalancing the checks and balance system set in place by the Constitution, there is no reason Congress can’t check itself. It would save us a lot of taxpayer money if they would remove the pork themselves before the final vote, instead of passing pork-laden bills or killing good bills and resolutions (like the Hurricane Sandy one) because of pork.
However, I feel the Sandy bill should have been passed, due to the extent of the damage suffered by the residents there. And as far as some of the pork goes, the reason for overshooting a budget without specifying costs (such as th ACofE and Amtrak examples you provide) is once you begin work on a project, particularly a repair or cleanup project, you never know what the final costs will be. It is called “contingency”. It would be impossible for the members of Congress (who have rarely worked for a living) to know what needs to be done to repair all of the damages. When I’ve acted as project manager, the worst case scenario is finding something else that needed done that would run over budget.
In the case of repairing an entire city, better to give too much money than not enough. But there was still plenty in that bill that could have been removed just for the sake of passing it without a fight.

Come on, man! Don’t burst the libs’ bubble with facts! How can they ever get anywhere if we don’t let them lie about us?

How many of those attachments to the bill for aid for Hurricane Sandy were penned by Republicans that control the House?

It amusing how the pip-squeaks come out from under their respective rocks when a mud-puppy like Danziger emerges for a bit of flotsam.

MORE people were killed in West, Texas, and if reports of the company’s violations with respect to hazardous materials are true, the event might be no less “criminal” than what happened in Boston, but isn’t getting the hoopla from the press, the population, or the policing agencies.

Is killing people for “greed” any less horrendous than killing them for “creed”???

Tigger is this requesting links like the unsubstantiated remarks you made on the gun control discussion on the Senate vote when you emphatically, repeatedly stated that Reid was “paid off” by the NRA. Could you maybe show a credible source for that?

    @Lynne B

“Rattlesnakes are, in the main, quite honorable creatures.”

Having just about soiled myself at the loud rattling noise or the foreboding sight of a coiled snake I’m not sure honorable would be my choice of words. The main issue (IMO) is snakes are predictable. They are typically more afraid of you than you are of them and they will avoid humans unless disturbed or agitated. Politicians on the other hand typically aren’t proven to be a consistent or trustworthy lot. After all, the average snake doesn’t talk out of both sides of their mouth and change their behavior for a price.

David, you have obviously ignored the primary rule: It’s okay if a Republican does it.

    “Notice the right wing response:
    a) Ignore the event and pretend it’s ‘libruls’ being silly

    b) Pretend that it’s OK either because (1) Cruz is republican so all is forgiven and/or 2) ‘libs’ do it too so why are you complaining

    c) Listing some pork as an excuse to vote against even the stripped version of the bill. (Not invalid just conveniently ignoring the intense hypocracy evidenced by Cruz given all his pork)

Acting as if a list items is “proof” of denial of Cruz’s hypocracy is silly. Simple question: Is Cruz a hyprocrite? (We can discuss the other politicians separately)"
