Hagel will be confirmed, these objections are petty and it’s time for more non-partsian appointees who will work with our needs instead of cowtowing to the voice of special interests.

When Israel invaded Lebanon in the 1980s, I recall an editorial cartoon where an Israeli officer was asking a tank officer…
Why did you stop? Was it tanks, aircraft? Hordes of Lebanese with anti tank weapons.
The tank commander says…
One US Marine.
The marines had stopped the Israeli forces from crossing lines set by the UN. A few weeks later, the barracks blew up and over 200 Americans died and we left. Lebanon suffered.
Israel is a great nation. Sometimes their government sucks. Sounds like…hmmm….let me think.
Thoughtfully,
C.

I still wonder…hypothetically, if “President-Elect Romney” (shudder) had nominated Hagel to be the Secretary of Defense, would McCain, and Schumer, and everyone else be kicking up this much sand about him??
OR, how much of the fuss is SIMPLY because he’s Obama’s choice?
Just curious…

Outside the one token Socialist senator, three parties control congress: Democrats, Republicans, and the veto power, Likud.

IMO Schumer is no longer the driver for Israel leaders.
By supporting Hagel, Schumer is now working to put a proven unfriendly politician to Israel in charge of gutting the US military in the DOD, and a waning support for the Jewish nation that Truman instantly supported in 1948, in the tradition of our Founding Fathers who were always supportive of Jewish people. One Jewish banker saved the 1776 Revolution by providing funds to Washington’s Army.

I want a Pro-Israel and Pro-USA person heading DOD.

And I would like to live on ice cream and beer.
.
But that would be an unbelievably stupid choice.

Schumer works hard for his constituency.
.
All of his constituencies, actually.
.
Is he “Pro Israel” well he’s Jewish and he represents a LARGE jewish constituency, so, given how far he could have gone, I’ll have to say “only kinda”
.
Not that Israel has anything to worry about, the USA isn’t going anywhere. There are too many Christian Fundies that want us to protect Israel, They don’t care much what happens to the Jews there, so long it doesn’t get over run by Arabs.
.
Chuck does a good job for us in NY.
.
And giving Hagel a thumb up is just another example of him doing so. (Believe me there are many in his constituency that would disagree with him, but Schumer put pragmatism ahead of politics, and for that, we’re happy!)

the U.S. is a strong supporter of Israel – NOT a colony of Israel. The Israel Truman supported was not Netanyahu’s Israel. There are many, many Israelis who oppose Bennie’s policies. And with regard to Chaim Solomon, Jewish financiers also helped Kaiser Bill in Germany.
I want a combat vet heading the DOD. I prefer one in the White House, but Obama’s doing just fine.

I want someone in charge who makes decisions based on logic and reasoning, not someone who’s blindly pro or anti anything.

I find it interesting that you put pro-Israel before pro-USA. Should the AMERICAN Secretary of Defense take an oath to Israel before entering office?

Hagel simply stated the truth. If Israel wants to PROVE they have a right to exist, they were after all created as a modern nation BY THE UN!, then the need to stop attacking and invading their neighbors, and WE need to STOP regarding Netanyahu as governor of our 51 state. It IS significant that close to a majority of ISRAELIS, do NOT support Netanyahu, the advancing “settlements” and denial of the rule of international law.

Our founding fathers were not always supportive of the Jewish people. Yes, many did well here, but American tradition is definitely mixed on it. However, being supportive of a religious group and always supporting the policies of a nation are not related. Not even Jewish friends of mine support many of Israel’s abusive policies. Why should they? We don’t support all of our country’s policies. But Israel is in the wrong in its treatment of the Palestinians, and I suspect the prophets of old would call Israel’s leadership to task.

I do find it interesting that a nation created by the UN gets such love from the very people who despise the UN so very much.

Hopefully Hagel will be a voice of reason in the DoD. We should pull away from the neo-con world domination matriz and toward a more balanced view of the worlld. We have succeeded in burning too many bridges. Obama’s unreported performance in Phnom Pen in November was horrible.
