I’m not clear as to who “Mr. Bubble” is supposed to be.
.
I’m not sure what Ivory Soap has to do with GroNor.
.
Is it that he has 99% on Republicans on his list? And they’ll start to break ranks soon.
.
I’ll say that this cartoon is for an intellect that is beyond mine.

My question is how did Grover Norquist come to have so much power that all these Republican elected, signed a pledge to him. Isn’t their first loyalty to the U.S. citizen and in cultivating a government that takes care of essential business that the U.S. needs to prosper, that takes the needs of growing a prosperous middle class a top priority and of helping poor people to have a chance at more economic security?

@deadheadzan
Those are the democratic talking points. The pledge is actually a “tax pledge,” not to raise taxes but work for economic prosperity by cutting government spending. Who is right? That is the trillion dollar question at the moment…

The question is 99 and 44/100% pure what????

Ditto your sentiments. Isn’t he obnoxious though? He irritates me almost as much as Nancy Pelosi when she talks. Aside from instituting term limits, I think it should be a felony to lobby members of congress. It would be a good start. Oh yeah, limiting the spending on elections severely and limiting campaigns to 6 months would help as well.

“it should be a felony to lobby members of congress.”
.
Aside from the fact that GroNor doesn’t wait till they’re elected, he arrives like Beezelbub with a contract and a promise to/for the wannabe politician.
.
I don’t have any problem with salesmen showing up to convince the Congressman. There is that darned 1st Amendment!
.
The problem with the campaign reform as you outlined it is that with SuperPACs, there is no way to limit the campaign (absent the restriction of free speach) when it is someone not related to the candidate running it.
.
For example, lets say that Joe Dohn is a Congressman and he is not allowed to campaign for re-election until May 6th. Pith Smete is planning to primary him and CorpXYZ is backing Smete. CorpXYZ can run ads from November to November to November in support of Smete while Dohn is shut out of the contest.
.
So Lobbyist Jown Brim helps Dohn out by running a few Pro Dohn SuperPAC ads to counter CorpXYZ.

But does he still float? Depends on what you believe he is. If you believe he’s a bar of Ivory soap he’ll float. Grov will float alright, although it’s because I think he’s a turd!

@Just Curious
Right idea. I’d have used more “earthy” language.

Did he ever float ? Or did he just sink the party ?

“Sit” does float, especially when full of fatty waste.

Another example of how the right has sold out the idea of thinking for themselves and are led around by the nose by this incompetent.

I’ve made a lot of errors in judgment, lately, here and at work so this post is probably unnecessary. This is a busy cartoon, kind of like those in the old “Smokey Stover” strips.
.
Ivory (brand) Soap advertisements touted that it was “99-44/100 percent pure. It floats.” Referring to the wealthy 99 percent, also referring to ivory color (white)?
.
Ivory Soap has a lot of air in it, so it floats. And since it’s less dense than regular soaps you pay for the air. It’s less expensive per bar, but you get the same amount of actual soap in two bars as in one regular bar, so the cost is about the same. It’s all an advertising gimmick.
.
“Mr. Bubble” was, and probably still is, a brand of powdered bubble bath for children. Referring to Obama’s less substantial quality in his policies?
.
This is why I’m known as “The Fount of Useless Information.” It’s a curse, sometimes, because people ask me trivia questions and I can’t rest until I remember the information. Every year, it takes longer.
.
Also, it might be suggested that Norquist and his ideas are no longer afloat, and he’s about to go down the drain.

Nah. The cartoon is clearly showing who is currently getting “drowned in the bathtub.” Norquist was originally talking about drowning the USA, patriot that he is. I love Bors’ old cartoon about Santorum: “Our goal is to make government small enough that women don’t notice it’s in their uterus.”
