    A modest proposal:

    Evacuate people from within the fire zones. Arrange all our politicians into a loose ring around the fires. Have them start speechifying and simultaneously moving toward the center of the ring. Soon all the oxygen will be depleted and the fires will be extinguished. As an added benefit, the politicians themselves will suffocate.

    Send all resultant medals for me to a post office box number to be provided at a later date.

    We’re witnessing the fall of a once great republic. Quality of life, personal freedoms, services disappearing. The citizenry is being catered to by a dumbing-down media that has lost track of independent investigation, congress is fully in the pocket of big corporations, knuckleheads dominate the public debate over important issues like the need for public services, firemen, police, teachers, parks, highways, air and water quality protection and Fox news backs them up. Knee jerk, short sighted narrow self interest is behind more and more of the decisions being made. I’m so sad to know my grand children will have to live in the world we’re creating.

    I agree with @ruff, @Tom – even we here in Florida are feeling that pinch. However, many of the firefighters are fighting back to keep their jobs as well!

    Having a fire “crown out” over your head is an “intersting” experience Romney and all the righties should have, I’ve been there. Decades of poor management dictated by timber companies, have now been made more serious by climate change and increasing beetle kill. The Republicans ARE like those beetles, destructive of their own “livelyhood” and future, but gobbling up the cambium while it’s there.
