I believe the toon implies that Palin is the death of the GOP.

  4. iamthelorax

iamthelorax said, about 1 month ago

I think it’s because people still blame her for McCain losing the election.

I also think Danziger missed a great opportunity to comment on her “sexy librarian” look while surrounding her with books.

  5. bikemaster

bikemaster said, about 1 month ago

McCain never had a chance and she was a desperate, last-minute attempt to salvage his inept campaign. She is a fine-looking woman, but that’s about it.

  6. ezdeb

bikemaster raises a good point. If Sarah Palin was ugly, or even just had, like, a double chin or slightly crossed eyes, would she be as popular? If she said the exact same things, but looked like, say, Julia Child (no offense – I’m just picking someone considered non sexy) or dressed in dumpy clothes with short hair and clunky glasses, would she not be dismissed?

  7. iamthelorax

iamthelorax said, about 1 month ago

Dismissed? Probably not; Her sudden popularity with conservatives is that she gives speeches well in line with talk radio commentators. Don’t need to be hot for that (though it doesn’t hurt for camera time).

”? Could someone explain this one?”

Y’see, Sarah Palin is reinventing herself as an essayist and commentator on our times, much like George Orwell was for the thirties and forties. And in keeping with that, she went out and shot an elephant, and is now writing about the experience.

However, while Orwell’s essay was about the absurdities of imperialism, and the brutalizing effects it had on everyone involved, Palin is just writing about how awesome it was to shoot that elephant.

John McCain was the death of the GOP.

Acting like Demoncrat Lite rather than the party of Ronald Reagan was the death of the GOP.

The GOP will probably win a congressional majority back in 2010. But I seriously doubt, given their current leadership, they will prove worthy of their victory.

The GOP is always a better choice than the Demoncrat Party, granted. But it gets old, choosing the lesser of two evils, knowing you’re still stuck with evil…

PS the above drawing looks like Al Franken in a dress. Jeff Danziger apparently has never studied a current photograph of Sarah Palin…

Yeah, there are a lot of folks terrified that Americans would actually vote for someone who barely got out of college (4 schools, 6 years for a journalism degree?) to lead the nation through a recession and multiple wars.

I mean, MAYBE it would be OK if we had a President who didn’t understand economics, law, politics, or foreign policy…oh wait. No it wouldn’t be OK.

    Dream on longtime-elitist-idiot.

Sarah Palin understands more about human beings, human behavior, and which decisions and policies both impact and improve human life than Barak Osama EVER will.

You stuck-up, snobbish, pointy-headed pretend know-it-all’s who think only government-brainwashing aka “education” are what matters in life, are who have both degraded and dishonored Western civilization.

The more ordinary, common-sense people we elect who actually have run businesses, made payrolls, hired and fired employees, raised kids without using food stamps, worked extensively in the private sector rather than working only for the government since college etc etc, the better off both we and our Republic will be.

You so-called “educated” chattering class fools are the
    PROBLEM, not the solution.

I do agree with some of the other posters that you have the artistic skill to make Mrs Palin look more like Mrs Palin.

However the message comes through very clearly. It helps that I agree with the message.

Hi Scott! I’m presuming that your numerous lengthy contributions today mean that your mom is washing your pants (been spending too long with your Sarah Palin pictures, maybe?) and you’re not able to go outside.

When they’re ready, can I suggest that you get an appointment with your friendly neighbourhood shrink and ask him to tell you about Ego Defence Mechanisms, particularly projection. I’m sure if you ask nicely, he’ll draw you a diagram or give you a leaflet that one of your mom’s friends can read to you at bedtime.

In the meantime, have another of mom’s cookies and lighten up….

I think Scott might be Stewie’s little brother! Is that true, Scott? Stewie was a really angry guy that gocomics simply booted off the site several months back. Your commentary is quite similar with the name calling, the insults, and the frantic lists of your “enemies” qualities. All in all, it makes for some really boring reading. But the constant whining, with no lightness or humor, just angry accusations and hysteria… it finally came to the editor’s attention and they told Stewie to take a hike. You’re not going to be here much longer either if you can’t get a grip. It seems like every toon you visit lately it turns into a group intervention… please give it a break and lighten up a bit. Is there any happiness at all in your life? (xanax, my boy… xanax)

gbrucewilson said, about 1 month ago

Scott, I agree with you completely. I’m a libertarian, and normally would not support someone like Palin. But, I have come to believe that the only way the GOP can win back the presidency is to run a young attractive populist like Palin. “The people” are in a mode to blame others for their problems and a populist would supply that in the form of blaming “big government” and “big business”. All Palin needs to do for the next three years is learn “double speak” and give non-answers like the others. Unless things change dramatically, Obama is destined to be Carter Lite. BTW, Obama learned, once again, that his “charm” is not enough to get things done. Case in point: 2016 Olympics.

Scottf sez this is how god told him to share the love of Jesus and to convince people of the Christian way.

It’s always this and nothing else with you, Scottf. Think of Jesus (NOT Ms. Palin this time!) sitting with a group of skeptical people like us, and teaching them. Are these the types of words you envision him using?

    WTF, Scott?

  29. fritzoid

Frankly, politics aside, I don’t think Palin is all THAT attractive. She’s OK, but not to any noteworthy degree.

Tina Fey looks cuter as Sarah Palin than Sarah Palin does.

I hope she DOES run again, because she scares away the center; she appeals only to the Republican base (in more than one sense of the word).

  30. HabaneroBuck

HabaneroBuck said, about 1 month ago

ezdeb, Jesus has shaken the dust off his shoes with leftists long ago…

Only someone with a mental disorder could possibly prefer Fey’s appearance over Palin, and that’s the truth! No knock on Fey, but c’mon, take another look at a recent Palin photo.

Where is the media coverage of the recently verified (it had already been investigated and revealed) claim that Bill Ayers was Obama’s ghostwriter for “Dreams…”, the very Bill Ayers that Obama denied having a friendship or relatioship with? Anyone not aware, read up on Christopher Andersen’s “Barack and Michelle” and the work of Cashill. It’s so plain it can’t be missed…oh, let’s just pick on that stupid writer wannabe Palin instead.

Is Jeff saying she single handedly Killed the Republican Party? Had McCain listened to his adviosors and picked Mitt Romney as his Running Mate, he would be President today. We would not be in the soup were in today (battle over Health Care Reform)

We would not have 10 Billion Czars (exaggerated for a vald reason)

  35. fritzoid

Leaving aside whoever the Dems nominated, McCain was the only GOP candidate who COULD have won, because after 8 years of W the vast center (which is who decides these things) was completely disenchanted with the Republicans. McCain was the least scary. But McCain was unpopular with the Republican “base” and he knew it, so he brought in Palin to keep the Evangelicals from sitting it out like they had done for Bush I.

I NEVER believed the hype that the choice of Palin was a “brilliant” political move on his part. They were counting on winning over the disenchanted Hillary supporters, and thought they would flock to the ticket because Palin has a vagina. Yes, Minivan Moms can be a powerful voting bloc, but women in general are more inclined to be socially liberal than men, and all the hockey practices in the world wouldn’t make up for her views on gun laws, capital punishment, and abortion.

And again on her presumed “attractiveness”, I still prefer Tina. Sarah looks very “plastic”, in the standard “beauty queen” mold. We’ve seen Tina Fey in grubby sweats and fuzzy slippers, plopped on the sofa eating ice cream from the carton. (True, that’s still her “TV self”, so there’s still been a hair and make-up crew involved.)

Much of what makes the Sexy Librarian look actually sexy is that librarians can usually be counted on to know things. Smart is Sexy, and there’s where Palin completely loses me…
