Jeff Danziger provides a scathing international take on politics, finance, and everything else you aren’t allowed to discuss at the dinner table. Combining spot-on caricatures with razor-sharp writing, this feature will make you listen a little more closely to what they tell you on the news.

not sure how they all do it for free now – I never click on any ads – oops, I shouldn’t have said that!
iamthelorax said, 3 months ago
Sounds like he’s running out of ideas. I think the revenue from viewership (if he gets it), is just going to be cannibalized by the drop in ad revenue when he reports less hits on the sites. It won’t work unless he re-vamps his sites to something new and unavailable elsewhere, which I am pretty sure it isn’t.

I would never pay for news when I could read a newspaper in the public library.

I saw a gent grab about six packets of free crackers, a bowl, and then get the free milk/cream packets. Was that you cabro?

Good…anything Rupert Murdoch does to make the lying propaganda he puts out a little harder to access is A-OK by me.
charlie555 said, 3 months ago
The only reason I can see for why they offer it for free now is that, deep down, they fear no one will pay for it. Reminds me of an old Peanuts strip. For three panels Charlie Brown is in front of the TV listening to PBS beg for funds “If you don’t give, we’ll go off the air,” they warn. In the last panel, Charlie Brown simply says, “Good bye.”

*58* You don’t have to click…you have been exposed. That is what the web ads pay for. Clicking is gravy.

There also will be those sites that will never $$$ & get more hits as people look for alternatives. At best offer free access like GO Comics does & offer a paid subscription with access to more content like there Genius membership
dtroutma said, 3 months ago
I do not mind paying for FACTUAL content, buy books, magazines, newspapers. That is why I’d never pay for any of Murdoch’s publications regardless of medium.

I think it’s a DANDY idea - now if only we get him to charge a fee for watching Faux News! It’s enough trouble trying to avoid his FREE content!

Amazing. The premise is that Murdoch wants to make some money, so he’s evil.
Then, some see this and feel entitled to “free” news, as if these screens don’t have any cost behind them.
I think Danziger’s real problem is simply that he disagrees with Murdoch politically. And if his cartoons fool a few people into thinking Murdoch is evil, he’s perfectly happy.
I want my free subscription to the LA Times - why can’t I get that? It’s only cheap newsprint.

I think that’s the movie ABOUT Fox News Channel…? Why watch that? I watch FNC, and sometimes check their facts against other sources. In fact they subscribe to AP like other outlets. Why watch a movie by people who have an agenda to make FNC look bad? Sure people on FNC have their agendas, but FNC’s agenda is to sell their product - news & analysis that covers both sides, left and right - to the public (who pays thru buying advertised products btw).
Why don’t other outlets pick up this model?
Do you watch FNC (I mean, seriously and w/ an open mind, to see if it is a good source for news), or do u watch movies ABOUT FNC?
Its ratings can’t be as good as they are w/out delivering a good product.

In fact, sclark55, no one has to MAKE Fox News look bad. It IS bad. So if you really believe what you said above, there’s no help for you.

In the end we will be able to thank “Doc” for bringing this thing to a head . He doesn’t understand web commerce . In the future sellers will sponsor the sought after story or ,say, cartoon and it would be available on the sponsors website for free but you must visit the sponsors website to see it .
Most Viewsers won’t even register to view NYT let alone pay for it , 80% or more of the paper is for elitist NYer’s psuedo where can I buy the freshest lemon rosemary crap. All the News that’s fit to print , bah . good luck with this plan Doc Just hope you don’t run into /b/ out there.

Far as I’ve heard, murdoch is so computer and internet ignorant, that it may not amount to a hill of beans as to what he says or wants. He must be getting on in years, so how long will he be a factor in what happens anyway?

I wouldnt expect to get any news from any rag he owns

Fox does very little news, most of what they do is opinion junk, often not labelled as opinion. What do I care what some random plumber thinks about anything whatsoever? I really don’t give a bleeep what a dentist thinks about Hawaii birth certificates. Why should I care about what Michael Jackson or Charlton Heston thought about anything? Neither of them published great works, nor were greatly educated nor did they distinguish themselves in any way but entertainment, and that qualifies them as entertainers, nothing else.
Look, I DON’T CARE what a physicist thinks about the latest discoveries in biology. They aren’t equivalent fields, a physicists ideas about recombinant DNA are about as useful as mine - which is not very.
CNN is getting nearly as bad, like the old saying about money, bad money driving out good money, circus clowns acting as news anchors will drive out professionals acting as news anchors.
When you pay all your attention to the person who’ll take off their clothes and scream at the camera, pretty soon all you’ve got is people who take off their clothes and scream at the camera. OF COURSE the country is going downhill, with voters misinformed by such a perverted process.

If truth is relative (as most colleges now teach), there are no experts, so everyone is an expert.
Gladius said, 3 months ago
I doubt that Murdoch’s pay model will work. A number of news sites have experimented with it in the past. I haven’t heard that Murdoch is trying anything new. On a personal level, it doesn’t really affect me since I have free access to most news publications I’m interested in through my college. (free on my part of course, the college still has to pay for them)

charlie555 said: “If truth is relative (as most colleges now teach), there are no experts, so everyone is an expert.”
DrCanuck corrects a misconception: Rubbish! Human understanding of truth IS relative, as opposed to absolute. But in no way does that suggest all ideas are equally true. Ideas are MORE or LESS supported by evidence and reason, so ideas are better or worse RELATIVE TO other ideas.
(and “experts” know more or less about their ideas than others do.)
olfart said, 3 months ago
I hope that all web sites charge for their content.(Except this one!) That would help the newspapers, which I prefer.
ynnek58 said, 3 months ago
Some truth are absolute. Rosie O’Donnell is utterly repulsive – absolutely true.
Some people suck as human beings. True!
Dealing fairly (as you can) is ALWAYS the right thing to do. True
It’s NEVER OK to take advantage of others just because you can. True.
Relativists don’t want to believe in anything solid, because there would then be expectation of their behavior.
DrCanuck said, 3 months ago
Relativists have the HIGHEST expectations of their own behaviour, based upon carefully thought-out standards and principles. Absolutists just do as they’re told, unless they think they can get away with it.
