If GM had put brakes, suspension, fuel economy, and steering in the cars, instead of a button to call an ambulance, they may have sold more cars?

As I understand it, the world market at present is expected to sell 55 million cars this year. The production capacity is for 90 million. Figure it out…

GM had hybrid tech first, as it happens. The advantage of being an immense company is you should have some room for skunk works and innovation, but apparently not. Even Wagoner admitted that this was probably his biggest mistake. Well, it’s a biggie.

Ex-owners (um, ex-lessees rather) of their groundbreaking plug-in EV1 are still furious about their senseless recall and scrapping of the zippy electrics, while drivers would have been willing to do almost anything to keep them – see Who Killed The Electric Car movie (Google for lots of links, first (http://www.sonyclassics.com/whokilledtheelectriccar/)

On Star is another way of personal intrusion. They know where you’re at before you ask. All they have to do is type in the code to the On-Star unit and they can find you.

Michigander is absolutely correct. The trucks where I work have a GPS system. I can callup any unit on the computer and see where it is, how fast it has been going at any point, where it has stopped and for how long, and other information that I am not comfortable with the whole world knowing. I doubt that On- Star is much different.
