    If you really think that, you don’t know much about defensive baseball. No matter where the ball is hit, the first baseman has to either field it, back up the second baseman or or run to first. If there are runners on, virtually the entire infield is moving on almost every play. The outfielders, the center fielder in particular, have to back each other up on fly balls and grounders to the outfield. Even the pitcher and catcher have fielding duties. Granted, there’s a lot of time BETWEEN plays, but once the ball is hit, there’s a lot of activity.

    …sorry… it was meant to be a lighthearted joke. I love the game. I worked with a former catcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates – and that was actually his characterization. Didn’t mean to offend. Go Tribe!
