Hey - I have decided to keep out of doctortoon’s tribe. It’s just tooo ‘friendly’. I think I here the clicky sound. So I am starting a complete new tribe. You are in just by starting or ending with ‘A”.
here’s my starting ‘A’ team , so whenever I type ‘A’ I’m sending comic syndrome greetings to you in an ultra text messaging manner. It’s also how they great people in Canada. A? Maybe even Australia.
Here’s my A-team:
pookid54
BALD
D-i-c-e-r
grazer
prasrinivera
Helmet head
yyyguy
nighthawks
crunkbot
RRAmom
the irishman
I’ll add on once in a while, but you are free to join or leave at will. Just ignore the ‘A’.
I think that makes me a shaker-quaker liberatarian or something.
“In the bleachers” is my ‘home base’ for ‘A’ greetings. And here of course, where all great minds meet for intellectual meat. Plus wherever else I decide to drop the friendly ‘A’ bomb.
A.

I didn’t know Don Money was so in demand as a third baseman these days.

So that’s why so many barkeepers have a bat behind the counter! I always wondered…
Sternvogel said, 5 months ago
You could have a fantasy team of Don Money at third, Dave Cash at second, Norm Cash at first, MARK Belanger at short, Curt Schilling on the mound, BUCK Martinez at catcher, BILL Robinson in left, Hunter Pence in center, and Brad Penny (normally a pitcher) playing right field in an emergency.
SQUIDBREAKER said, 5 months ago
Or Joe Penny could play a right fielder.
Sternvogel - you are recruited to be on the A team.
I better write that down.

Thanks for the explanation of your name EMET. I don’t know much Hebrew, but it is interesting. Are you a Messanic Jew?
Thanks for the vote of confidence!

bmonk I found out in my concealed carry class that it is legal to carry a baseball bat or golf club even if you don’t play the sport, but it is illegal to carry a stick especially designed as a weapon. (Like a night stick, etc.) At least that’s the law here in KS, and I would imagine that goes for most other states. Therefore, people who don’t have a license to carry a gun, often keep a bat or golf club handy.

@ RRAmom:
I am a commandmentist. I believe in one God, one set of laws, one standard of judgment and justice. Because I believe HaShem exists, I want to do what will exibit love for Him and others, and I also want to obtain and demonstrate mercy, and learn what is righteous and sound judgment.
Beyond that , I accept no labels.
I also need to laugh sometimes, that’s why I am hanging out with a bunch of knuckleheads.

EMET Just wondered. When we were looking for a church home, we visited a Messanic congregation a few times, and much of what you say reminds me of what I heard there, although I’m not positive, as we didn’t go to their Sabbath school and hear their theology in detail.
Proverbs 17:22
“A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.”

RRAmom -
RRAmom:
If there was a messianic joint around here, I’d probably go. Just don’t let them bully you too much. They have as many traditions that have infiltrated as christianity.
But i would rest on saturdays and do some online studies.
Check out KDSH online. They have a saturday noon study (brad scott) that’s pretty decent.
Keep asking whatever - it all OK by me. Kind of an odd place to put out some oil and lamplight though ;)
And I probably wouldn’t be a Jew (tribe of Judah). Probably a Levite. Big difference.

i am breaking my rule about commenting on religions here, just this once. i’ve not made any great study comparing them, but what i have learned seems to indicate that they all have the same basic message. to wit, live in peace and harmony - don’t hurt each other - treat others as you would be treated by them, etc. if you’ll excuse the expression, it seems the devil is in the details.
i have gone from being raised a catholic, through professions of atheism and (later) agnosticism, to where i currently state that i belive in God without believing in religion. probably confusing to some (and heresy to the fundamentalists), but it suits me. (and i won’t bug anyone about their beliefs if they don’t bug me about mine.)
i now return to my normal silence on the subject.

We liked the music, but since their services start at 7pm on Fridays, and last past 10pm, the schedule just doesn’t work out for my husband, as he has to get up really early for work.
I asked someone who I knew had Hebrew heritage (her grandma experienced Nazi Germany) and asked which tribe they were from. She told me that no one really knows what tribe they’re from because the records were all destroyed. (I think in 70 AD, but my memory might be wrong.)
Since Jesus was born as a Jew, and lived in that culture, I think it helps to understand the significance of a lot of the NT, if we understand the OT better.

The important thing is to have a relationship with Jesus. We are to assemble with other believers to encourage one another, but every group (congregation/church) of humans will have problems. If you read the Bible and seek God, you will find the Truth.
I don’t mind talking about religion, but I don’t think arguing is profitable. I’d rather people answer questions calmly, and otherwise leave the subject alone. However, I have trouble with people expecting me to be silent on religion, but it is okay for them to spout things that go against what’s in the Bible. Even though I may not agree with the theology of someone’s relgion, I find it interesting to learn more about the terms, culture, etc. of that religion. As long as we treat each other respectfully, the topic shouldn’t be forbidden. That said, we’re at gocomics to read the comics, and have fun, so I will try to not turn this into a religion forum.
