Really? Cause I was thinking no way would he “jump” in front of a car if he was recovering from a broken leg.

I too, was thinking that the Uncle could not have jumped in
front of the car. Where was He hit with the blunt instrument?
The Doctor did not mention anything! Any head trauma!
Also, the Uncle would have carried His cane in the right hand
to compensate & assist the left leg! Any physical therapist
will tell you to hold the cane on the opposite side of the weak
    or injured leg!!!

Right! The “detective” is an idiot.

The cane belongs on the right for a left broken leg. This forms a tripod (right foot, left foot and cane) when the left leg steps forward creating more stability. If the cane was on the left; when the right leg leaves the ground to step forward, there would be only two points of contact (the cane and left foot ,which are very close together) and poor stability.

Why not just wait for the guy to die?

The comments about the cane position are correct. Obviously, no research!

The blunt object he was hit with was the detective’s head.

WRONG – you always use a cane on the opposite side of the disability – normal gait pattern is one leg advances as the opposite arm swings forward – sorry!!

After the uncle was hit by a car his cane could have landed anywhere so its position after the accident is meaningless. A more obvious clue is that the car should have suffered some kind of damage or at least a dent or scratch, but the hood seems to be in perfect shape.

This is the second time I’ve seen an error in the cane position in this comic.
