Camping IS better in an RV. But tent camping next to one doesn’t have the same appeal.

Lose him in the forest; use him as bait; give him to Bigfoot or sell him to the Swamp Dwellers in exchange for moonshine.

I once set up my tent in the last camping spot at my favorite campground near my favorite whitewater river. It was a very very busy weekend, and so even this primitive campground was half full of RVs. My spot was right next to a big honkin’ RV that was running its generator as I set up my tent. I couldn’t help noticing that the ‘campers’ inside were… watching television. More specifically, they were watching a videotape. I was very familiar with the area and realized instantly that the videotape was shot on the highway nearby. Yep. They were huddled up inside a rolling building, watching a videotape of the road they just drove down to get here. Truly weird. To their credit, the generator was shut down at 10:00 to the second (campground quiet time), so they were Good Sams, even if they were a little pathetic in their behaviors.

    That isn’t even camping.
REAL camping is in a tent, under a tarp. MAYBE in a tent, if lucky.
But RV’s and trailers? HELL NO, not real camping, at all!

And the one that complained about the cooking became the next camp cook. Thus the now famous exclamation: “But it’s the BEST moose turd pie I’VE ever eaten!”

Did my fair share of “real” camping back when I was a boyscout. As an adult the only time I ever camped was when I went to Oshkosh for the EAA flyin. Absolutely hated the camping, but it was worth it to be within walking distance of the airshow.

Love camping, hate national campgrounds. too many people. I like being up in the mountains. Only bad thing about that is packing in the water, even with a jeep. Now days my knee hurts too much to camp. bummer

Long weekends make getting a campsite – difficult. One weekend we tented across from a bear trap. Wasn’t too bad. the neighbouring tent had a dog that kept bring us firewood. In return, we obliged our neighbour with milk for his morning coffee.
    .
so is Hubris going to rid us of the annoying neighbour? Or keep him for comic relief?

That’s how my aunt and uncle are. We will all be camping in a gorgeous campground surrounded by fun things to do, and they will be watching the game on their big screen tv. And you can’t be rude and do your own thing. Nope, you have to watch another football game and daydream about all of the fun hikes you could have been on or all of the museums you could have seen. And you would have had the comfort of your own bed, kitchen, and bathroom when you came back to camp.
