The ultimate standoff… The local skateboarders and I have a truce. I don’t tell anyone they are using an empty high school as a skatepark, and they don’t make a fuss about me using it as a dog park.

War waiting to happen. Both sides will end up defacing the battlegrounds, but the ‘boarders won’t leave stinky nitrogen bombs lying around behind them. I side with the ’boarders.

I side with the cyclists. Joggers take up too much room, and pedestrians won’t keep to the side to let anyone get by them. Dogwalkers are just nasty. ’boarders are often nice people and willing to coexist with others. We need more cycling and ’boarding parks.

People on “vehicles” should show respect towards other pedestrians, but people with animals got even more of a case on their hands if they are running free.

Reminds me of a sign in Amarillo Tx. on the courthouse lawn “Airmen and dogs keep off the grass” Best I could tell both ignored the directive.

In Ontario, bicycles are considered a vehicle, and fall under the “Highway Traffic Act”. Most cyclists don’t care, and ignore laws that require them 1) to have a loud bell, 2) have lights, 3) wear a helmet, and 4) it’s illegal to ride on sidewalks.
THUS when I get his 2-3 times a week I have no qualms punching the guy (or girl) as they clip me. It’s not right, but it’s reactionary, right?
If they followed laws, I wouldn’t be so angry…. or maybe I would, but I wouldn’t have a reason to be angry at Cyclists.

We all think of the park and the streets as “ours”, and the other people that are using them as “other people that are here sometimes when I am.” I skate and bike and run and walk the dog and bootcamp workout at the park. And I’ve met plenty of others that think that at least one of those activities shouldn’t be allowed. Some non-dog people were very happy when the local park added a fenced in dog area. I said “that’s fine, as long as no one minds me running my dog through the rest of the park like I always have.” Turns out the dog park was to keep the non-dog people happy by gulaging the dog people. Who knew?

@Allan
Same Highway Traffic Act for cyclists here in British Columbia. Same cyclists. Blasting through 4 way stops and red lights. Sure we have bike lanes …. but the sidewalk is soooo much easier. … I stop now. Rant will get too loud.
.
Yeah! Go `boarders! At least I can hear them coming!
