The TV man inside wants out. You know he is the one who lives inside of TV and changes the channel when you SHOCK him with the remote.
And he has had enough channel surfing.

My grandparents got a remote set in mid 60’s the remote itself worked for about 6 month’s and then it was back to the original remote i.e. the grand kids :-) grandpa never did buy another one

We finally had to take my mom’s remote away from her. She’d either hit the “record” button on the “Mute”, decide the thing was broken and change the batteries. We even tried putting a washer over each button and wrapping the thing in electical tape, but she still manged to foul it up.

Sounds like my wife. Technology confounds her to no end. At least your mom can CHANGE the batteries. My wife tosses the control away.
When we first got married she took the car out to the store. She called me all in a panic it would not start. I calmed her fears and drove over. She said plain as day “It won’t start, check the oil.”
I thought inside my head “Whaaat?”
She insisted I check the oil as she was convinced that was the issue.
I had to check it before tightening the battery post clamp as it had come loose.
    Problem solved.
She said “I told you it was the oil. Thanks for checking it. Checking it makes the car start.”
AND remember she is out there in our world coming your way……..STAY OF THE ROAD!!!!
    heheheh!

I remember those. We had a Zenith “SPACE COMMAND”. ON and OFF. Nothing else. Just on and off. It used a musical chime. We later moved and the door chime in the new would make the TV go on and off.
I remember three stations, tubes, “rabbit” ears, later moved to roof antenna, later to a movable roof antenna controlled by a box on top of the TV, Channel 13, trying to fix the vertical or horizontal when it would scroll or flip. For years I thought everything on TV was black and white with shades of gray. Then COLOR. Now everyone was either tomato red or Martian green. Color balancers. UHF and VHF. Picking up late at night the Bull fights from Mexico. The feel of a warm set. The hum when it turned on and everything “warmed” up.
Home visits by the TV repairman much less the milkman, door to door Kirby salesmen.
We had one who called and when my mom opened the door he tossed in a hand full of dirt.
My mom punched him in the nose and made him clean it all up while tearing into him. I never saw a guy so happy to leave.
