Back in the Early ’80’s I went out to dinner with my wife, her boss and his wife, and the Senior Partner of the firm and his wife. We went to a fancy resort restaurant near where I lived, in Arizona. We were all “dressed up” – I, in a three-piece denim suit and tie, – yet we were not admitted because of the dress code. The Food & Beveravge Manager nastily stated that the resort had a “no dungaree” policy in the dining room ! Trying to explain that a $400 suit made out of a denim material was not dungarees fell on deaf ears. Angry and somewhat embarrassed, we went to another restaurant where we had an enjoyable meal and the " big boss " probably spent several hundred dollars on the meals, drinks, wine etc.Now here is the irony ! Not more than a month later, that same resort that had turned me away, hired me as their AGM !One of the first things I did was change the “dress code” and fire the F&B Manager who had been so snotty to my dinner companions and myself ! He’d cost the resort lots of revenue and goodwill !
