This brings to mind an old parable. Once Moses invites God for dinner, for days Moses prepares for the big feast. On the big day, a couple of hours before the big expectation, there’s a knock on the door & there’s a beggar asking for food & lodging for a night, Moses tells him, he’s expecting the most important person & if he comes back several hours later he can have all the food & stay as long as he wishes. anyways, Moses waits & waits & there’s no sign of God. Next day Moses all disappointed & sad goes to the mountain & tell God how he prepared so hard & why would God let him down like that. God answers I did come but you’re the one who rejected me, I was that beggar who you turned away.
