When they escorted bombers, they never lost a single one to enemy fighter planes.

If I was there (I’m white), I would have told an African-American officer had he asked, “I don’t see the color of your skin, sir. I see the color of your brass!”
Pharmakeus Ubik said, 7 months ago
See the color of his skin, don’t ignore it. It is part of who he is, no need for colorwashing. It didn’t work out that well for George Orr in The Lathe of Heaven.

“Salute the men and women in uniform”? I don’t think so, that kind of thinking only promotes further war and conflict. I mourn all those who have died in senseless wars over the centuries. ALL of them in hopes that one day the madness will stop.

We need – must – support those who fought to keep safe the freedoms we hold dear. I hardly think WW II was senseless. We were fighting two madmen – Hitler and Hirohito – and I shudder to think what our lives would be if we had lost.

@Dani Rice
That’s my whole point. They shouldn’t have started those wars, wars serve no purpose but to cause death and destruction and as such are senseless. I mourn the dead Germans, Italians, and Japanese too, their lives were just as priceless, their loss just as great a tragedy.

Baleyman42 – are you from this planet? Wars are part of living here, unfortunately. Wars will NE VER stop because humans are not capable of agreeing with each other. Just look at the division in our own country, the hatred from both sides of the ailse, from one color of skin to the next. We can prevent stupid wars like Iraq and Afghanistan, but then stupid people will find an escuse to start them. Not having a military is NOT an option. Even switzerland, a neutral country, has a military.

IF a dead soldier from WWII could come back for one hour today, how would we survivors explain the BMWs, Benzes and Toyota’s?
“It’s the American way?”

I purchased a 1990 Mercedes 190e from a gentleman in Detroit who was a member of the Tuskegee Airman. I never met him personally, but saw his picture in the Detroit Free Press in a feature in conjunction the movie Red Tails came out. Every now and then I’ll be driving along in this great old car and remember I have my hands in the same place of a man that flew P=51s over Germany. His unit never lost an American bomber to enemy fire. Thanks for your service Mr. J.

That is a myth debunked by surviving Tuskegee Airmen themselves (I’ve met them). There were NO bomber escort squadrons that did not lose anyone.
@baleyeman42 – you display a frightening misunderstanding of the nature of life on this planet. Oh, I think those who were held in slavery liked the outcome of the Civil War.

Another moron who screams loudly about his rights, but refuses to do anything to preserve them.

Who started those wars? We didn’t bomb Pearl Harbor, Hitler declared war on us. Please tell me where you learned your history.

There is a way to avoid war, simply surrender when threatened. Of course, living like a slave is not too much fun, but think of no more war. I hope that your owner is a humanitarian, because slaves throughout history were not a very happy lot.

The rainbow would be very boring if it was just one color.

As I read some of the comments from those who obviously have never made a sacrifice for anyone other than themselves it is sad to see the mental state of the youth our nation. You can quickly determine that they were raised by selfish and self serving people who had no concept of why we went to war nor the cost to those who went in defense our nation and our way of life. I morn for them because they are lost and have not guidance in nor direction in their lives. What will they pass on the generations that follow? Nothing except self interest and no love of any thing except themselves. It will be a sad world and the will not enjoy the freedoms we who have fought for our nation to enjoy . Free men and women have to be willing to stand up when their country calls and stand in the breach against our enemies who want to enslave a free society.
