Denis: tell this minimum wage myth of “not a career wage” to folks making just a few cents above it, obviously ripping off their kind-hearted employer, who were engineers with Masters degrees laid off by their employers when their job was shipped to China or India… It isn’t all burger flippers either, those Wal Mart greeters and checkers, hardware store clerks, and thousands of other “service sector” jobs keep wages at or only slightly above “minimum”.
But though there should be a minimum living wage paid, it SHOULD be directly relevant to the regional cost of living! In my area, the current state minimum IS a survival wage, but in San Francisco, New York, Miami, or Phoenix, it is a half step above starvation and living under a bridge.
