I’m not arguing about your comment, but just want to bring this up. Do you know anyone who is an ardent model-railroader? Many Americans, Canadians and especially Europeans are! A German company, FALLER, has on the market a road system to install in one’s layout which controls the movement of little HO-scale vehicles, which you can hold in the palm of your hand. I have seen it in action on several layouts. A copper band under the road network transmints the power through the road surface, and behold! Not only are trains and trollies running around your layout, but cars, trucks and buses are animating your streets! But, these have one important advantage, as you point out: No human drivers!
