HIs biggest problem has been being too flexible and trying to accommodate the morons on the right. LIke, ain’t it a shame we haven’t bombed Syria and Iran, and NOT gotten any of our troops killed? Bush and the chickenhawks are really disappointed by that!

Just a note on experiences, it IS amazing how much easier it is to convict crooks by letting them shoot their mouths off while you play “dumb” in handling them. Now, just HOW MUCH has Cruz been blabbing away? Boehner? The other TEA piddles in Congress?

The stiff part called a “spine”. If Boehner had something similar, we wouldn’t be in this mess.

There is plenty of blame to go around, and inflexibility has been the hallmark of both houses of Congress and the Obama administration for years. It is of no value to assign blame to only “the other side”, when “your side” is just as culpable. That’s one of the best ways to ensure your opinions are unworthy of consideration.

I would be interested to discuss the writings of our founders with you DbtL. Particularly the writings of Washington, Adams, Jefferson, and Madison. Not so much Hamilton, though his vision of what our nation should become is the one most realized. The writings of Lincoln and T. Roosevelt would be useful from my own perspective, though they were not ‘founders’.
    One other thought…
When you stereotype “today’s Democrats” as you have, you are throwing fuel on the flames of divisiveness weakening our nation as warned by George Washington. When you use insults instead of logic and links to facts, you prove Eisenhower’s warning that it would take an informed and educated electorate to stand up to the military industrial complex. His draft of that speech included the words, Congressional. Insults do not inform. Stereotyping does not educate. And I assure you, the principles upon which the Founders stood would NEVER have permitted our nation to be shut down the way it has. The Founders would have fought to know every aspect of the ACA before it was passed and they would have searched for best methods/practices and compromised to create a product that promoted the health and well being of the citizens for which they sacrificed so much.
Read what happened to the homes and families of those who signed the Declaration of Independence as you display anger from the safety of a home which the blood of patriots has made safe for you, and for whom the tax dollars of those who came before you paid to universities and colleges to give you the medicines and technologies that make you healthy enough to think about what angers you, and enables you access to tools that allow you to insult those who offend you.
Are you despised by the left by choice?

    @Respectful Troll

DBTL is not despised by the left, it may be a slight annoyance to some not leaning against the right edge.
I have often seen, from many directions, people proclaiming what the founding fathers and colonists believed, who obviously have not read or studied the period or what they themselves wrote. Other things are taken completely out of context to support a predetermined viewpoint.

Thank you Eugene. I don’t know DBTL. And I, like the folks you mention, am at the mercy of my education and my reading choices over the years. Over the last few years, one of my favorite radio programs has been the Thomas Jefferson hour.
Mr. Jenkins who plays Jefferson and has also portrayed Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame, is a great source of news on new books about our founders. His debates as Jefferson against Hamilton and other actors portraying our founders speaking in character has been enjoyable and usually in line with what I’ve been taught or read.
If you ever feel I am misinterpreting something, I hope you will send me to an appropriate link, suggest a book, or simply tell me. A person unwilling to learn is unable to think objectively.
Thank you for your comment and your insight on DBTL. I will take that into consideration when I next reply to him.

Over 40 bills brought up to failure, because they don’t learn, is “flexibility”???

    Mechanic, great comment.
My disagreement would be nuanced and would include thoughts on the “Dixiecrats” and my thoughts on how many, if not all, of the tactics being used by the GOP were first used by Dems in the 70s and 80s, just not as efficiently. I would also point out that our global economy makes national loyalty less cost effective than it used to be. I would like to add more, but my wife is calling and I might not be able to return to these pages until tomorrow. Overall, I agree and appreciate the thought and tone you bring to the debate.
Sorry I have to go. Great comment.

Republican idea of compromise summarized perfectly in one tweet by Judd Legum:

Can I burn your house down?

    – No.

    Just the 2nd floor?

    – No.

    – No.

Let’s talk about what I can burn down.

    – No.

MStevenson58, you really are honestly ignorant about all the compromising that was done during the 14 months of the ACA’s creation, aren’t you? And by “compromising”, I obviously mean the Democrats giving up major parts of the bill like Single Payer, and the Republicans giving up absolutely nothing.

I’m not even sure you understand that no matter how many times you type “unconstitutional”, the Supreme Court’s opinion trumps yours.

Any TEA party folks ever heard the phrase: “to promote the general welfare”??
