As opposed to the multi billion dollar fence the right wing has actually been building to keep out Mexico and South America.

This cartoon has no point to make, but it’s interesting that it doesn’t keep the “dem lib” bashers from doing their usual rant.

George W. Bush, MBA, 43rd. President of the United States, in a May 15, 2006 “Address to the Nation,” presented the Secure Border Initiative as follows:
“First, the United States must secure its borders. This is a basic responsibility of a sovereign nation. It is also an urgent requirement of our national security. Our objective is straightforward: The border should be open to trade and lawful immigration – and shut to illegal immigrants, as well as criminals, drug dealers, and terrorists. We are launching the most technologically advanced border security initiative in American history. We will construct high-tech fences in urban corridors, and build new patrol roads and barriers in rural areas. We will employ motion sensors, infrared cameras, and unmanned aerial vehicles to prevent illegal crossings. America has the best technology in the world, and we will ensure that the Border Patrol has the technology they need to do their job and secure our border.”
Michael Chertoff, JD, Secretary of Homeland Security, in a Nov. 30, 2005 White House online questionnaire entitled “Ask the White House,” wrote:
“We must gain full control of our borders to prevent illegal migration and potential security breaches. That is why we have established the Secure Border Initiative, which is a broad, multi-year initiative looking at all aspects of the problem across the board — deterrence, detection, apprehension, detention, and removal. SBI addresses the challenges we face with an integrated mix of increased staffing, a greater investment in detection technology and infrastructure, and enhanced coordination with our partners at the federal, state, local, and international levels.”
SBInet was a program initiated in 2006 for a new integrated system of personnel, infrastructure, technology, and rapid response to secure the northern and southern land borders of the United States. It was a part of Secure Border Initiative (SBI), an overarching program of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to organize the four operating components of border security: U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, United States Citizenship and Immigration Services, and the United States Coast Guard. DHS announced the program’s cancelation on Jan. 14, 2011.

What was really “hilarious” about the totally failed Bush “border fence” was that the technology expensively contracted to Boeing, failed to work, the hard steel in those fences came from CHINA and most of the labor was low-wage “immigrant” labor! A HUGE waste of money that Republicans want to throw another $40 BILLION at!

We need to go back to “green card” programs, and think more sensibly about “border security”, but nothing Republicans propose goes there.

BTW: how many other vigilantes ARE in Zimmerman’s “neighborhood watch group”? Does he even actually LIVE in the area he was “patrolling”?? I’ve never seen any evidence he had a group, or actually lived in that “community”.

Federal spending on border security is at an all-time high—and it would get even higher under the Gang of Eight’s new plan. The Senate immigration proposal, released last week, would allocate $4.5 billion in the next five years to tighten control of U.S. borders.

The U.S. spent nearly $18 billion dollars on immigration enforcement agencies last fiscal year, more than all other law enforcement agencies combined.

No it is a very good point, there is more to worry about in this country then racism. I don’t think it is in the top ten.

    Sins of the father man.

    Nou is dit reg.
Ag, dit was my plesier, jou ou verkrampte mampara. Jy’s soos die meeste ander verkrampte poepholle: jy’s ’n ou blanke man en verkeerd.

What part of my comparing Payne’s phoney democrat fence with the real republican fence did you miss?

“Roadkill eater”, you’ve watched too many Kurt Russell movies, like “Escape from L.A..” and figure “Snake” is a real person, NRA and TEA party member.

I love most the fact that the most radical conservatives in America are the LEAST INFORMED on reality, but then they have Faux and Rush to provide them their “facts”.

Having worked the Mohave and Sonoran desert areas in California and Arizona, know that if folks stopped dropping off water caches for folks trying to cross on foot, illegally, the desert makes a most effective “fence”, that is quite lethal.

Which, as another example of idiocy, the Republican plans to make all areas, like wilderness, refuges, etc, that are now closed to motor vehicles, “open” areas instead, where Border Patrol can’t possibly keep up with the added traffic, only makes the situation WORSE! On our southern border, the landscape is our best “fence” in most of its distance. Making vehicle access easier, only makes enforcement more difficult, period!
