    “… government investment is one of the best ways to spur the economy … ever been invented by humans.
    -
    Each dollar spent on NASA has brought hundreds back into the economy.
    -
    Conservative estimates are that the human genome project has resulted in about $170 worth of economic activity per dollar, so far—and that number is growing rapidly.
    -
    The internet, which was about an $11B 25 year investment by the government originally, has resulted in Trillions of dollars of economic activity and great strides in prosperity worldwide.
    -
    So a cut of $1 for any such government investment actually costs hundreds to thousands of dollars. It’s no wonder our economy is suffering so much.”

    Its over already. Congress didn’t want to be late for their week off so they passed a bill. To bad they won’t work together on the important things.

    Yes. Budget cuts should only harm the veterans, children and the poor.

    The Republicans were so eager to get the across-the-board cuts, but now they’re saying “Oh, wait! We can’t let them inconvenience anyone who might vote for us!”

    I was amazed that Congress was able to find 250 million just sitting around, not earmarked for anything. Makes me wonder if there are more funds available to buy down the debt a bit. But don’t forget though, the bill has to be signed by the President.

    @HOWGOZIT

    I know he proposed it, as a measure so distasteful neither party would want it. But surprise, the Republicans embraced it as a way to get cuts.

    Some of that is true. But going into debt to give billions of dollars to Obama’s friends and thane watching his friends file for bankruptcy does not help the general economy.

    Can anyone tell us e here the trillion dollars in the original stimulus went?

    Once again you are wrong. The sequester came from the White House.

    @Tax Man

    As I said, the idea of the sequester came from Obama (or one of his advisors). Nobody expected the Republicans to say hey, let’s do it. They tried to get defense exempted from the cuts but went ahead and embraced them anyway.

    Palatable? Are you serious? If you’ve got two kids fighting are you going to say, “Ok, you two, if you don’t behave you’re going to get ice cream!”?

    All the morons on the right, failing to note the “sequester” was the result of a bill REPUBLICANS passed in the House, need also to recall when complaining about Obama, the Cheney-Bush theorem of “Unitary Presidency” where Congress, Constitution, and laws, could be ignored with Executive Orders, or “signing statements”.

    Much of what you said is why many (myself included) still respects the USA and its achievements.
    I look forward to many more, but I fear they will be diminishing.
