I think old Abe would have enjoyed the clevage and the fact that a black man was being honored. His scowl is, IMHO, ill placed.

I suspect the comic is implying that he would be above this current celebration. He did spend some of his last hours at Ford’s theater, so he did indeed enjoy some of the average American’s pursuits. He celebrated like we do, despite his undeniable grandeur and burdens as a President,as well as a human being.

I wouldn’t expect Lincoln to show up on the red carpet, based on his past experiences in theaters…

If Lincoln came back to life today he would come to the Hollywood gala in a good mood, looking for a pleasant evening, then see the Hollywood crowd and think he died for nothing.

You missed it. He unified the country. So all the folks going in are equal. Black, White, Yellow, Brown , and Red. It took a while and is still a work in progress.

Lincoln enjoyed a party & was very tolerant of people, great & small.
You on the other hand, would be blasting the Lincolns for spending taxpayer money on renovating the White House so they could host elegant banquets for the ’Who’s Who" of the 1860’s.

Mrs Lincoln, other than the intermission how did you enjoy the play? Too soon? Too soon?

I’m interested in what Henry Payne meant with this cartoon.
