It all started when Phoebe skipped a rock across a pond and accidentally hit a unicorn in the face. Improbably, this led to Phoebe being granted one wish, and using it to make the unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, her obligational best friend. But can a vain mythical beast and a nine-year-old daydreamer really forge a connection?

Oh Pheebs must you be so paranoid? Max is being a good sport. I don’t know many kids that age who would.

No one has ever done that for her. If Max offers a post-bee compliment, her head might explode.

Marigold is hardly even taking a part in this story arc. Phoebe is the lead character and the story has nothing whatever to do with the unicorn.

Being complimented by a boy she likes is too good to be true so it is too dificult to accept. In contrast, she can take Dakota’s insults because she expects them.
Happy, happy, happy!!!

Just a little?

Ya’ know Pheebs, as far as cartoon characters go, he’s a cute kid. Just accept it.

It’s clear that Phoebe is really Dana, but I’ve been wondering if Max is really her husband David (AKA Orville the Seagull).

What ever you say Phoebe.

Remember, remember, the month past December,
The spelling bee treason and plot.
For I see no reason that Max’s high treason
Should ever be forgot.

Anyone remember the Charlie Brown movie with Charlie going to a big spelling bee trip??

You’re referring to the wonderful “A Boy Named Charlie Brown” (1969), arguably the best of the four Peanuts full-length features.
(“Snoopy Come Home” packed a more powerful emotional punch, but “Boy” was more sophisticated and more representative of what Peanuts was at its peak.)

Yes. And I remember the lamellophone (mouth harp) Snoopy played that gave Charlie Brown super-spelling powers.

I think Dana’s avatar looks like Phoebe’s mom, but then daughters tend to grow up to look like their moms. So Dana, which is it, are you Phoebe or her mom? LOL

Phoebe has partaken of the paranoid, fearful and duplicitous ambiance of our culture. Sad but so true. But not at Pheebs age and not with that boy who is a nice friend.
