It all started when Phoebe skipped a rock across a pond and accidentally hit a unicorn in the face. Improbably, this led to Phoebe being granted one wish, and using it to make the unicorn, Marigold Heavenly Nostrils, her obligational best friend. But can a vain mythical beast and a nine-year-old daydreamer really forge a connection?

Some leaves hang around until the new ones grow next Spring… Don’t hold ya breath too long.

No, watching grass grow is what all equines do with eager anticipation. The last leaf must be a metaphor for something else. Maybe Todd could help.

When it finally does fall, Phoebe will probably feel sad for it and give it a decent burial.

Now that you’re paying attention to it, it’ll hang around forever. Like former reality-TV stars.

At least it’s not being melodramatic like in “Over the Hedge.”

Why waste her time on this?

Watched some college students watch the foucault pendulum edging towards a chip. The suspense nearly killed them.

I used to do (well, ::cough::cough:: still do, as a matter of fact) things like this. For instance, avidly gazing at the odometer to watch it turn over, or watching a clock to see all the time and date digits identically match up.

Earlier in the season, designate a tree, set up a betting pool on when the last leaf will fall.
Somewhere in Alaska they bet on when a particular river will melt enough for a float to move a certain distance, this is really the same type of thing.

I like her userpic. Also, I don’t see any problems with staring at stuff, watching things go by. It’s deeper than you might think at first. And SO much better than staring at your monitor 14 hours a day.
