    If you’re talking about Sean Thornton and Squire “Red” Will Danagher, don’t blaspheme the Duke. Victor McLaglen was 20 years John Wayne’s senior in that movie, and his son, Andrew was worried about the fight scenes. It was John Ford’s son, doubling for Victor that John Wayne knocked into the creek. In my estimation that movie was completely miscast. The Duke was too old to play an obviously 20-something retired boxer, and Ward Bond was too young to play a priest old enough to know Sean’s family — a role better played by Francis Ford — especially when nobody else in the town seemed to remember them. The widow Tillane should have known him immediately, but was at a total loss as to who the Thorntons were. Very little about that movie was really believable.
