Does anybody else remember “Bored of the Rings” by the Harvard Lampoon?
.
The “bored” part is what’s important here.

Yes. I’ve read it many times: for our scene above:
The quest was successful, and the dragon, a prewar basilisk who smelled like a bus, was taken from behind while he was clipping coupons.

I dunno: I’m pretty captivated by this arc, but then again, “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings” are two of my favorite books. I was raised on long literature and symphonies and this late in my life, I still have an attention span. Half-hour (22 minute) sit-coms leave me cold.
And “Bored of the Rings” is pretty dated, particularly the references to Richard Nixon.massha said, 5 months ago
I am a lifelong fan of Tolkien too and I am enjoying these series.

Count me in on the Tolkien fans loving this story arc
Mark, don’t let a few Trolls discourage you about the current storyline, just write them into the next one and make sure something nasty happens to them

The “ball hog” reference in Bored of the Rings was hilarious, though. Some nice parodies of the poetry in the book also (“Oh, Heaven help the Working-Elf!”);

Is this even going anywhere?

ugh, another week of this? I read the book already, I don’t need to read it again using outside characters. I haven’t seen the movie but I did see the old cartoon, I don’t need to see it rein acted here. I’m sure pretty much everyone has either read the book or seen one of the movies. There’s no reason to tell us a story we already know. My main fandom is Star Wars and if he spent a month acting out a Star Wars movie I’d feel the exact same way as I do now.

It cracks me up Heart calling Smeagol “Frog Boy”. Trying to imagine Frodo or Bilbo doing that.
