It’s usually based on the tradition of naming a person with names that recognize the maternal and paternal lineages… there’s a legal first name, and sometimes it carries religious flavor, to name a girl after “Mary (Maria)” or a boy Jesus (of course pronounced Hey-Seuss in Spanish, equivalent of Jesus)… this also varies according to region (Spain, Mexico, Carribean, Central/South America, etc.) A person would have a first name, a middle name, and then a name reflecting the lineage/heritage of paternal/maternal history….

As much as people disdain Wikipedia, it does give some good information on this subject, and has information broken down to explain this more clearly…

My parents did not name me in the traditional way (part of my heritage is Carribean), but if I could make up a fun name just to be silly (and filled with puns, etc., of course!),
maybe it could be: Oscar Mayer De La Bologna Carmen Sandiego… but you can call me “Al”… Lol!
