If there’s one thing everybody has in common, it’s getting older. From newborn babies to baby boomers, there’s no escaping it. “Gray Matters” is skewed to that vast generation of boomers. But since getting older means adapting to changing circumstances, lots of readers, old and young alike, can relate to and laugh along with our characters. Don’t let the name of the strip throw you. The cast of “Gray Matters” is anything but colorless as they struggle to keep up with the rapid changes in society, culture, technology, the workplace, their families and, of course, their bodies.

I discovered keeping a beard groomed was more exasperating than shaving; kept the ’stache, tho.

I started my first beard the day after I got out of Basic Training in the Navy! I told myself I was NEVER shaving that closely again!
Fortunately, this was when members of the Navy could wear beards, during the early 70s.

My wife told me early on that it’s fine with her if I wore a beard and/or moustache. I just wouldn’t get as many kisses. Last month I went the longest period without shaving of my adult life at deer camp. I found out that if I grow a beard now, my chin will be grayer than my head.

I’d like to kill all the follicles on my face so I wouldn’t have to shave again.
