If there’s one thing everybody has in common, it’s getting older. From newborn babies to baby boomers, there’s no escaping it. “Gray Matters” is skewed to that vast generation of boomers. But since getting older means adapting to changing circumstances, lots of readers, old and young alike, can relate to and laugh along with our characters. Don’t let the name of the strip throw you. The cast of “Gray Matters” is anything but colorless as they struggle to keep up with the rapid changes in society, culture, technology, the workplace, their families and, of course, their bodies.

You have to ask while they’re still eating pie.

I thought you had to eat a LOT of turkey to get a significant dosage

Yeah, and??
Most guys WILL eat enough turkey today to kick their hearts into total clog mode!

While a whole bunch of comic strips today are making essentially the same joke, this site: http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/turkey.asp says that the concept that turkey makes you drowsier than anything else is a myth.

@rsketch
I agree it is a myth, but the over eating is what actually makes you sleepy. The DPS in Texas is actually recommending you don’t drive right after you eat the big meal today, you get too sleepy and could fall asleep at the wheel.

The flip side is that tryptophan is an amino acid.that is essential to the human diet. You can’t get rid of it altogether.
Night-Gaunt49 said, 7 months ago
It is the carbohydrates not the tryptophan that puts so many to sleep.

Do what I did! Rinsed the dishes and let them sit! Hubby did them while sons and I were playing cards and watching football! He knew dang good and well I wasn’t going to do them after 2 days of preparing and cooking! LOL!

Family tradition that dates at least to the 1940’s, women cook, men wash for all big meals.

It’s the overeating, the alcohol, the protein, and a whole list of things that make people so tired. It’s just that when science found out what Tryptophan did, people used it as a scapegoat and excuse so they weren’t “lazy” but that it was going to happen regardless. ;-)

Okay, so I didn’t get a chance to read my comics yesterday, but Savage Chickens has the same idea at http://www.gocomics.com/savage-chickens/2012/11/22
