Grandma should put away the math books and let them enjoy the summer.

I always wondered why I had some kind of familiarity with numbers when our junky school didn’t cover math well. Then I remembered doing math in my head for my 3 paper routes. My mother didn’t allow me in the house so there was no leisurely calculating at home on paper. After that I worked as a waiter, and had to do all the calculations by hand. I also worked as a clerk in an accounting firm just before computers took over the calculations. People who weren’t accurate were fired on the spot, in front of everyone. You can’t depend on the schools to give enough math practice. I was lucky to have jobs before college that used arithmetic.

They can always take English in college. That’s what my friends did who were afraid of math.

If school starts in September, the math, spelling, and other workbooks come out in early August.
