I did, when I was little Daddy would let us take turns sitting on the towels that mom put over the top to hold it down when it started to freeze. Once it starts to get hard the dasher come up with every turn. I LOVE home made ice cream………might not taste better than the store bought stuff but is worth the effort and is a labor of love.

Yeah, blew by me too… Thought ’why’s she using some kind of crank machine to make mashed potatoes?’ Duh?

I did, too. Just wondered why she didn’t have those lazy grandkids take a turn on the crank. This is why they are such brats. She does everything for them and they appreciate nothing. Oh, sorry. Comics.

If I want homemade ice cream I go to Handel’s. They make it, I buy it. Win-win.

You must be a bunch of young whippersnappers. I knew what it was in the first panel. Sigh.

I recognized it. Recently went out and bought an electric ice cream maker. Definately worth the extra money to not have to crank. Makes better (and better for you) ice cream than what you buy at the grocery store. All natural ingredients and no preservatives.

Homemade ALWAYS tastes better than store-bought!!!! I go waaaaaaaaay back, even to the “hand crank” days; I remember my first taste of peach ice cream more than 70 years ago, when, there was only vanilla chocolate, & strawberry available commercially! Wonderful!!!!!

That brought back memories. … found a recipe for sorbet – no cranking required. Just a lot of elbow grease. lol.

But if she’d GONE to the store, it wouldn’t taste the same.

In East Lansing a few years back, some law school graduates who didn’t have a job lined up, rented a storefront and made homemade ice cream in the back. There were only two flavors, but the stuff was so good there were continuous big lines, sometimes around the block. There were no emulsifiers, or anything artificial in the ice cream, so it would melt fast into a thin liquid. It was a big hit, but they soon quit anyway to work in law.
