   My cell phone only does voice phone calls. I had texting ability disabled because somebody texted me and on the next bill there was a two dollar charge. I was not amused.

   You would seem to be an ideal candidate to use a Tracfone. Your cost is only about 8 bucks a month when buying a 400 minute card once a year, and the 400 minutes either doubles or triples automatically depending which Tracfone you own, plus there is always a code for an additional 200-250 minutes available. Each text message only cost 0.3 minutes off your balance if you do texting, which I don’t.
