My step-grandfather’s first wife survived the Depression and stashed money around so they’d have something if the banks and Wall Street fell again. A year after she died Ted married Grandma and they were together 11 years, after both almost hit the 50 year mark with their first spouses. They were still finding money after Ted died- and they’d redone the place after Grandma moved in to use the best of their furniture, and done some clean-outs to give things in boxes in the basement to relatives who could use them then.

Here in Louisiana, the holiday season is just the practice run for the real party, Mardi Gras! Parades, parties and feasting.
