    Agreed.

My mom never went to college and my dad enlisted after only doing a single semester, so they never quite understood just how much out-of-class effort was involved in getting a degree.

As a result, they had some pretty outdated notions. For example, if they saw me on the computer they assumed that I was just goofing around; they equated research with “going to the library” and writing papers with “hunching over a table or desk”. It took a while to finally get them both to realize that not only was I doing work, it was often quite difficult work and so I needed some slack in order to get it done.
