For the last time…there is a difference between weather and climate! Look it up and turn off Fox News.

Love it when the global warming cultists that blames every hurricane, drought, heat wave or sad polar bear picture on global warming, smugly informs us that a 17-year lack of global warming is due to global warming.

Actually, El Nino is more climate than weather, because it depends on some large scale (in area) variations in sea temperature that occur at roughly periodic intervals and influence weather over very large parts of the globe.

As for facts, pretty good reads on the global warming “pause” can be found at BerkeleyEarth.

In particular the “memo” by Zeke Hausfather is excellent.
It goes through some of the recent reports from the UK and summarizes them.

Here is the bottom line: Global Warming means just that. Warming of the atmosphere and the ocean. (heating of soil is complex because of the nonuniformities. In any case, heat generally radiates away quickly at night. Deserts are cold at night.)

The plots that people who say global warming is over love are the surface air temperature plot and the near surface (0 to 300 meters depth) ocean temperature plot. Those do seem to rise less sharply in the past few years (but see Rich Muller’s take on appearances).

But the bad news for everyone is that the heat content in the ocean between 0 and 2000 meters continues to rise. It rises much faster than the heat content between 0 and 700 meters and faster than the heat content between 0 and 300 meters.
Oh and the actual heat content itself increases.

Between 1970 and 1992 the heat content curves were pretty much on top of each other, then the 2 lower depth heat content curves got steeper, Around 2002 or so, the lower depth curve got steeper and moved away from the middle curve.

That’s data, not opinion. The bottom line is that heat content is increasing in the deeper ocean. The heat content of a volume of water is enormously greater than the heat content of an equivalent volume of air. So the heat is going down deeper, and the surface doesn’t change as fast.

Global warming continues, like it or not.

In ESP research, one has one person pick a card and think of it, and another person try to guess the colour. Four right in a row is statistically significant. So ESP researchers look for runs with statistical significance, and, since 1 in 10 are significantly significant, they find them. It’s called ‘torturing the data until they confess’.

Global warming deniers cannot be accused of anything like that. Those honest scientists were not looking for a run that WAS statistically significant, they were looking for a run that was NOT statistically significant. And they found it. They had to look at a lot of different runs. Sixteen years? Didn’t work. Statistically significant warming. Eighteen years? Didn’t work, statistically significant warming. Seventeen years. Bingo! Irrefutable proof that all the con persons claiming that there is global warming are all charlatans, and every sensible person will reject global warming as long as winters are colder than summers, and as long as some places in the world have new historic lows every single day. Taking the average of every official thermometer from all over the world would be math, and all math is evil.

“Scientific” models didn’t work? No problem. They’ll just change the model to make it fit the outcome.

That “17 year cooling trend” is as extinct as the mammoth. That the rise has slowed a little, is NOT a ‘cooling" trend. It also depends where you live in that thing called “the globe”, as in “global climate change” what’s going on at the short term, regional, level.

James Powell tracks scientific papers (you can look him up), and last year there were 2258 peer-reviewed journal articles that mentioned climate change. Only one denied human-caused global warming. The argument is over among those who do the science. There is simply no convincing evidence on the denialist side, and the “17-year cooling trend” is complete conservative fiction like the IRS “scandal” and the Kenyan birth certificate. Look at the data. Dumb cartoon.

Ah!, So you believe in phlogiston! And the AEther! And the “raisin pudding” model of the atom! That life is spontaneously produced!
That Newton’s laws are the only correct formulation of the forces of nature.

Now that’s being conservative! Allow no facts to influence your thinking!

Global cooling in England, it is important to keep any climate change in context that the little ice age ended, depending who you listen to from the 1890s threw the 19 “tens”.

    @Overtaxed

More strange is how global warming only happens in North America.

Are you really that ignorant? I guess so.
Try to understand the graphics at Berkeleyearth.org

It might require thinking instead of regurgitation of drivel.
