To really pile on Curl, I’ll point out that he makes a big deal out of Obama playing 100 rounds of golf during his first term. John Boehner has said he plays 100 rounds of gold per year. Where’s the outrage Mr.Curl? Curl also praises Bush for “giving up golf”. Bush told a reporter he gave up golf in August of 2003, but was filmed playing gold in October 2003. I guess he misremembered that. What’s the deal with golf anyway?Bush never went to the ranch in Texas at Christmas, according to Curl, so that, “hundreds of people revolving around him at all times — White House staff, Secret Service agents, reporters, photographers, all the others — could spend the holiday with their families in and around Washington, D.C.”Bush typically spent Christmas at Camp David, then headed to Crawford on the 26th. Secret Service has to follow & protect the President wherever he is. He was hardly being kind to them. I don’t have much sympathy for the media following Bush. Most of them would have made better use of their time by staying in DC, investigating Bush’s claims about Iraqi WMDs. Maybe they could have found a drunken staffer at a holiday party who was willing to admit they were just looking for any excuse to invade Iraq.Curl says of Bush, “Second, he rarely attended sporting events, although he once owned a baseball team and was a self-confessed stats junkie.” Bush attended 9 baseball games while in office, including a game in October 2001. If I were as stupid as Curl, I would suggest that Bush should have been trying to find Bin Laden. Obama has attended 3 baseball games since he took office, none since 2010. Of course, Obama is more of a basketball fan, but I can only find references to a couple of NBA games, a couple of college games & one Olympic exhibition game.Curl takes issue over Obama going to Hawaii for a vacation. I guess he forgets that Obama grew up in Hawaii… or else he believes Obama grew up in Kenya. If Obama spent even a small fraction of the time that Bush spent in Crawford, there might be something to point at. But when you add up the costs, the Obamas are behind the Bush family on vacation expenses.Curl was a White House correspondent during most of Bush’s term. He was supposed to be a “hard news” reporter at that time, not an opinion writer as he is now. During that time, he repeatedly appeared on TV, and made false statements in support of the Bush administration. I refuse to give much credence to anyone who’s ethics are so clearly compromised.
