Tried but failed is still better than to have not tried at all, Glenn.

I don’t think it was Obama’s failure that Chicago lost this bid. It will be Chicago’s failure.
Rio was on its third attempt, as was Madrid. Was it a slap in the face for King Juan Carlos who attended on behalf of Madrid? So why should it be seen as one for Obama?

Yes, Glenn, we all long for the days when Bush was president. How the world loved us then!!!

It is not surprising that the ‘messiah’ bombed out. Why would they put the Olympics in the cesspool of the USA?
He is an embarassment to the country.

If he did not have his cronies in Chicago to pay off then I doubt he would have rolled the dice.

Scott, like McCoy, celebrates the “defeat” of America:

Hooray! America has lost another one!
Now if only we could lose another couple of hundred soldiers in Afghanistan, we could REALLY point out how bad Obama is. And if the American economy were to collapse, we could probably win the mid-term elections!
(good grief)

Interesting how the right-wing-extremist lunatic fringe is celebrating a minor defeat of the USA.
On a side note, Human Rights Watch is pushing the Olympic Congress to take human rights into account in host countries. http://www.hrw.org/en/node/85896?tr=y&auid=5408916
So perhaps the legacy of Bush/Cheney may have cost us the 2016 Games.

C’mon, Tigger! Starting praying for more bad things to happen to America, so you can blame it on Obama!
(Good timing, by the way…proving R. Peter’s point, as well as that of the CNN editorial I linked!)

President Obama as our leader has many different obligations. I certainly do not fault him for trying to help Chicago get the Olympic bid. That should be part of his job description.
The opposition from the right is pure politics similarly to the opposition of the left to absolutely everything Bush did.
Now that I have chastised the right I have a question to those of you on the left. We all know the rule of debating is to never ever admit you are wrong. When caught with your hand in the cookie jar- deny-deny deny.
I don’t expect an honest answer but don’t we all know that if Obama had succeeded and Chicago got the bid after his appearance, the left would have said see- it was because he apologized to the world about how horrible Bush was. He went from country to country saying mea maxima culpa.
Those of us who differ on that concept truly believe the US is disliked because we are strong and powerful. All the apologies in the world won’t change that perception.
Chicago came in dead last and Obama and his new approach to the world was spectacularly unsuccessful. If his approach had succeeded the views of the left would have been partially vindicated. He failed. Draw whatever conclusions you like.

Chastisement noted. I respect the office of president. I should have explained that I see Glenn’s cartoon more as a prophecy of the future; that after 2016 we will see the socialist movement in America (Obama’s “torch”) fall flat on its face.

losing the olympics isn’t the worse thing that can happen to a nation, IMHO. I mean, most of the olympics in the last two decades were in Europe or north America. South America can have some fun too!
michaelwme said, about 1 month ago
The current trend is to put the Olympics in new places (whereas before, it was restricted either to Greece or to one of the Great Powers). Brazil was a) eligible; and b) new (and a new continent at that). So Obama’s attempt was obviously futile.
So (let me make this multiple guess)
Obama’s use of the prestige of the presidency to make a patently futile attempt to promote the US as venue for the 2016 Olympics was:
A) noble.
B) stupid.
C) reckless.
D) inappropriate.
E) All of the above.
Answer Key: Sorry, I don’t have an answer key. Make up your own mind.

why are you guys being so pathetically myopic - and childish nya nya america lost, obama lost -
nobody lost you buncha judgment freaks
somebody won - who deserved to win
did that mean everybody else didn’t deserve to win
no
did it mean all the heads of state are “reckless, stupid, inappropriate” to have gone to support their countries?
no
did it mean that it would have been nobler to stay at home - oh lordy i can hear it all now
why in the world would you want to fault him for what he did??? i don’t get it.

Too bad, so sad. Now his & Michelle’s crony slumlord Valerie Jarrett won’t get rich out of more shady Chicago real estate deals, displacing the poor they proclaim they are helping.

According to press reports a senior IOC Delegate from Austrailia place the blame on the Asian IOC members for forming a “BLOC” to vote against Chicago’s bid & give all thier votes to Tokyo who was eliminated in the second round of voting!
Roger said, about 1 month ago
Time after time we see that when a city gets the Olympics, the amount of money poured into preparing for and holding it, is far greater than that gained. It may buy some prestige, but in hard times, when money is tight, that’s not something we need to be spending money on.

Don’t worry Anthony, you still have Comrade News Network and National Proletariat Radio to comfort you over Obamao’s Olympic FAIL! Even the Bastion of Berzerkely, Saturday Night Live is poking fun at all of the big-eared doofus FAILING to deliver on his radical promises.

NoSpam, calm down. I know like most extreme righties you’re celebrating the fact that Chicago didn’t get the Olympics, as you so desperately need anything you can blame Obama for, no matter how far a stretch,
But that wasn’t what I asked. I asked you about your link, which doesn’t go to where you seemed to think.

Hey, for a right winger who has been putridly so, this ‘toon is centrist.
Again, I find the illustration to be ribticklingly funny, McCoy should do an animated cartoon IMHO.
The message is palitable in that there is truth to it. We all fall down sometimes. The question is, howdo you get back up again and it is THAT action that earns the respect of your foes.
Even Clinton haters had to admit that the guy could take a punch, even a knockout punch and still somehow struggle back up to whip yer bleeep!
