It definitely degrades the office of the President to be featured on entertainment programs while occupying the White House.
I know Reagan never did anything so lowbrow. Can’t recall W. ever hitting the talk show circuit either. Must be a Demoncrat thing…

Anyone else remember Nixon on Laugh-In saying “Sock it to ME”?

McCoy, this toon is ludicrous. The president is meeting with Sec. of Defense, Sec. of State, other military advisors to make the best decision possible. The request for more troops should be examined and discussed. I guess, McCoy, you preferred it when Bush 43 fired military advisors who didn’t agree with his gut … but, hey, according to McCoy, it’s all good because he did it FAST!. And actually, McCoy, he didn’t do it FAST, he spent more than a year gearing up to invade Iraq.
Try a putting in some element of truth in your toons, McCoy. They are so much better when you do!

WTF: Knowing you, you’re probably thinking of Phil Hartman.
Reagan was on the Tonight Show while California’s Governor. I’m sure he was on some shows after his presidency. I specifically remember the Dean Martin Roasts.
Nixon and Clinton were on while candidates.
Nixon was on Laugh In on 9/16/68, while he was a candidate. An offer was extended to his opponent, Hubert Humphrey, who was a sitting VP at the time, but he declined. (per Wiki)
David Frost’s famous interview with Nixon was 4 years after his resignation.
Al Gore was on the Tonight Show while he was a sitting VP.
Obama has appeared on both the Tonight Show and Letterman while President. He’s the only one.

We don’t elect presidents to be the public face of our government and to represent us in the world.
We represent them to instantly rubberstamp requests from the military, without question.
In fact, we shouldn’t even elect them at all. People are too foolish to take on such a responsibility. If the generals appointed the president, we wouldn’t have all this delay in getting our troops into other countries!

Church, you missed Bill Clinton playing sax on Saturday Night Live (while POTUS?), Arsenio Hall too, I think.
This ‘toon implies that the POTUS is so absorbed in appearances on talks shows that he’s unable to make decisions required by the office, W spent more time on vacation than any other sitting president and the GOP was unconcerned, guess double standards are in order.

Yes BCS–for months with no direction as yet. It doesn’t take long to say sorry General, this is what is going down.

Beside the fact Obama answered more questions in five minutes with Dave than Bush did in eight years chopping brush in Crawford?

KITT: You’re right, Clinton was on Arsenio as a candidate. Can’t believe I forgot that.
I’ve looked for a link for Bill Clinton appearing on SNL every which way, and can’t find one (they tried to book him is all I can find). He’s not listed anywhere as a host.
I would have thought he would have done at least a cameo, but I can’t find it. If you can, let me know (and then let me know how you found it!)
PS: Hillary and McCain both appeared as a candidate to be a candidate. Those also don’t count.
Al Gore was a host of SNL, after his term. (don’t know how I missed this also– he just so dynamic!.)
By the time Obama’s term is over, he’ll probably have appeared on Dave, Jay and Conan (he’s got to do Conan just to be fair, right?) more times than Steve Martin has hosted SNL!

I remember Nixon on Laugh-In. I thought McCain was great on SNL. Being a real, live person with a sense of humor is a good thing. I’m certain that Obama had many people very close if something pressing occurred.

Howgoznit, why bother to comment if you’re not replying to anything?
Throwing irrelevant insults around is, oh, that’s right, completely unproductive AND a GOP trademark.

@ M Kitt: Criticism of Bush 43’s extensive vacation time was often met with the defense that he was “still on the job” no matter where he went, in constant contact with Washington and ready to fly back should circumstances dictate.
Apparently that’s all impossible when you hop up the coast to NYC for the afternoon.

The complaining about Obama being on Letterman – or any number of shows – is idiotic. When he’s addressing them, he’s answering questions, he’s dealing with the public. Do I care that he’s the first (and I guarantee not the last) to do so? NO! I think it’s great.
You don’t like it? Fine. But then, there is nothing Obama could do that those on the right would like, so as far as I’m concerned, if he’s making the likes of striper or scott or howie mad, then he’s doing a great job.
PS. I’d rather see him on Letterman than playing flyboy in a flight suit on an aircraft carrier.

^ Pres O doesn’t have to do anything to pi@@ those mentioned…they just haven’t (not ever will accept) accepted him as OUR president…but too bad, they just have to suck it up!
George W made an on-screen appearance on “Deal or No Deal.” as sitting president

Oh jeez, and let’s not bring up a certain photo-op of holding a gee-tar in the middle of a national crisis (hint: female given name, begins with the letter K…)
