So uncool of McCoy to trot out the old stale comment.

i’ve thought that quote through a lot because i don’t want to misunderstand it. i trust her, but i want to be sure why.
i’m a funky texas white woman with Creek (Oklahoma i think) blood and an adopted brother and a sister from Ghana. I teach in university, but also in jail and salvation army facility. i’ve served on powerful academic committees and i’ve worked on a painting crew in a housing development - at the same time and also cared for elderly people in their homes. i attended a backwoods segregated grade school, skipped school in the “colored” bathroom, and barely graduated a barely integrated high school. then i graduated from UTAustin (a consistently and historically multi-multi-cultural univ of about 60,000) bleeep laude, then was accepted to the 5th top grad school of art in Baltimore where i truly felt home. when i was a kid we ate bread and milk (with a little sugar) at night. i never thought that was different. when i grew up, i raised kids by myself and became a professor. i never thought i couldn’t.
i think of her (and all i read and hear of her) and i guess i think of me. i want her in our judicial system’s high court.

My “new” high school took half the students from a “white” school and half from a “Mexican” school. Sorry we didn’t have any PC terms then. Things actually worked out overall pretty well. We found out we were PEOPLE first! McCoy is only 50 years behind the boat, without skis. Glub!

Parker, I have a question. Do you consider yourself “better” because of who you are, despite who you were, or are you just proud of what you are?
My problem with this lady what she has said, better yet a theme of hers. I am better because this is who I am and because of where I come from. You are not as good as me and you could never understand.
I see what you have posted and I think to myself “wow” and “cool” and “good for you” and what I do not see is any hint of I did it despite you and I can do it better then you because I did all this. You may see yourself in her but if you are not like her she might not see it in you. With the way she has phrased her theme more then once she setting herself apart and saying her qualifications are better because she is not an old white guy. You have simply stated this is me. She has stated I am not them.

parker, i want her on the court too because listening to her these last couple of days has shown me she is intelligent and thoughtful and I’ve learned something from her explanations of the nuances, the particulars, of cases before the court …
and her qualifications are irrefutable
i accept her statement about a wise latina woman was not well said and missed the mark she was aiming for … OK

Oh yeh belive she really answered those questions. “I believe in the rule of law” wow so insightful. And Frankenfuter ask a real hard hitting one about Perry Mason… She answered all questions sweeky clean and denoused half of what she has said in the past.

HQ, you really don’t believe in EVER taking the high road, do you? Frankenfuter? You can’t even SPELL your insults correctly! HQ, you have nothing. I invite you to watch Alito’s confirmation hearing. You sneer, of course, at SSoto’s statement, but you don’t say much about Alito’s blubbering sentimental statements about how he couldn’t help thinking about his immigrant family and the influence they have on his judgments. Nor do you reference Roberts’ demurring, vague answers and the friendliness with which he was questioned. Senator Grassley admitted his hypocracy a few days ago. You. Have. Nothing. But. Hate.

Why oh why are the ones who spout off about others hating have some of the most creative hate speech All while tearing others down for alleged hate? My guess is they just have to reflect a lot of what they do not like to see in the mirror onto others. But I guess I will never be as smart as they b/c I am not a old, grown up and had the life as the Latino lady.
My question is how is she to emphasize with those that are not her? I mean you have to be able to feel other pain..and not just reflect your own, to come to a good judgement…

HARRIED QUEEN, One day when you get a drivers license you’ll put all this behind you.

HQ, I notice, ahem, yet again, that you avoided the questions I asked you about Alito’s and Roberts’ confirmation processes. In your right-wing quivering victim sigh: ” Why oh why do people tear me down for tearing people down?”, you just turn your little head away from my on-topic questions and prove my point about sneering contempt by sarcastically referencing “the Latino lady” and her life. Care to try again? Here’s a link to Alito’s comments. http://briefingroom.thehill.com/2009/05/28/video-alito-on-empathy-and-experience/
What would be your opinion, HQ, ANandy, Muchado, etc, if you close your eyes and imagine it’s Judge Sotomayor saying those words? If you think Alito’s OK but Sotomayor is unacceptable, ask yourself why? Please respond.

OK I will answer now I know what you are whinning about. In all of that I did not see one reference to him putting some one else down. So he and she can both see what the poeple are taling about and he did say he was going to follow the rule of law like he was hired on to do. But nothing in those questions and answers tells me, like the theme the lady talks about. Her big thing is that she is different in the way God made her. She prides herself on the hard things she went thru to get there and thinks she is better then the next guy becuase of both things. I say I could care less is you are hispanic black white. Can you do the job. I say who cares if you came from a poor or rich back ground. Can you do the job? Can you find out who is right and who is wrong? Or are you going to be hindered by how God made you and think you have to honer that and always see “your people” as better ? Or do you think you have to side with who always portrayed them self as the down trotten.
If you have presented yourself as the champion of one group over another then you have no place being a judge over others!

Old Bulll you would find it hard to live a life that was truly color blind and a person is judged on what they can do? Left = hypocrisy then in your eyes.
ezdeb said, 4 months ago
At least you gave my question an answer, HQ, and I thank you for that. It’s interesting to me that you seem to have such a resentment toward SSotomayor because she “thinks she’s better than others”. You’ve mentioned it in other posts, too. I know others who say this is their chief beef with her. Interesting. Again, thank you for your answer, even if you couldn’t help but insult my, um, “whinning”, which I assume means whining.

I would like your opinion on something else, HQ. Your question: “Or do you think you have to side with who always portrayed them self as the down trotten.”, altho hideous in grammar and spelling, leads me to ask you in return:
Frank Ricci sued several times to get a firefighter job. He claimed discrimination for his dyslexia even though several hundred other people also did not get hired, and then claimed discrimination based on his race. Yet you think SSotomayor should not side with litigants who “portrayed themselves as downtrodden”. Like Ricci? Or (I’m seriously asking here) is it only an accepted generality for you if the “downtrodden” are not white?

If you noticed, the firemen were wearing their uniforms, none had lost their jobs. Its was the supreme court that revered their standing, not her.
HQ, You make no sense. What I dont like, since you ask, I dont care for you as a person. Would you like a list ?
ezdeb said, 4 months ago
I’m betting HQ’s response will be as follows:
jie0wjfemi nfjpmgvomi!!!Faiir taxez!
