Glenn, Your comic doesn’t make any sense. In your world the ice caps are getting bigger, so all they have to do is sit there and wait until they can walk on to land.

Drillings of glaciers in the arctic prove that CO2 levels over the millenia are uncorrelated to global warming. Also, the 2nd law of thermodynamics states that entropy is increasing (i.e. everything is “heating up”); so, how arrogant are those that actually believe human beings (who exhale C02) have anything at all to do with global warming. Of course, now they want to blame it on cattle gas. Cut S02 and other pollutants that are killing us, not C02 that doesn’t mean anything!

One of the major criteria for scientific research and theories is that they be falsifiable. That is, there should be a hypothetical set of circumstances such that the theory would be proven false.
The theory is that man-made emissions are the primary force in global temperature increases. These emissions are, and will be for the foreseeable future, increasing. If they are the primary force driving temperature increases, temperatures will continue to increase. The last couple of years have shown temperatures declining. Most climate forecasters predict at least 10 years of decreasing temperatures. These circumstances meet the criteria for falsification. If temperatures decrease while emissions increase, emissions CANNOT be the PRIMARY force in global temperature change.

Problem is this cap and trade BS is not about being good stewards to our land. The 300 pages that were slipped in the dark of night was all about whoes pocket was going to be filled with our tax money. All in the name of the phoney religion “climate change” and CO2.
Face it people you have been sold a bill of goods as worthless as Carbon credits. The nuts in Washington have been playing find the pea under the cup. They are still moving the cups around and the $pea$ is now off the table and in their back pocket!

Thank goodness there are finally some grown-ups in the American government.
danTheForth: No one has EVER claimed emissions are the PRIMARY force in global warming. For heaven’s sake, understand the theory before you criticize it.
The sun is the primary source. There are also secondary and tertiary forces both contributing to warming and cooling, maintaining an equilibrium. Human activity is unsetting that balance in dangerous ways.

No wonder people like Nandy don’t understand science. Comments like “worship at the altar of science” show that his religious pattern of thought is so ingrained that it prevents him from understanding the scientific method.
Unfortunately, rather than just wallowing in ignorance, that same religious thinking compels people like him to attempt to push that ignorance on others.
danTheForth said, 4 months ago
DrCanuck: “No one has EVER claimed emissions are the PRIMARY force in global warming.”
What an asinine statement. That claim is being made left and right. Need an example? How about here:
http://globalwarming.com/2009/03/what-is-the-most-significant-cause-of-global-warming/
The first sentence: “The primary cause of global warming is Carbon Dioxide emissions.”
From an article on about.com:
“On February 2, 2007, the IPCC published a summary report from Working Group I, which confirms that global warming is now “unequivocal” and states with more than 90 percent certainty that human activity “very likely” has been the primary cause of rising temperatures worldwide since 1950. ”
Wow, proving you wrong on that one couldn’t have been easier.
So that’s exactly what many are claiming, and it’s patently (and provably) false.

Give me ONE PROOF the universe was created in six days. Explain one non-science PROOF for seashells in rocks at the top of Mount Whitney. How can bumblebees fly?- Folks who can’t understand the complexity of a light switch, do have problems with complex science. Climate change IS a complex of conditions, and human activities have by far the greatest impact to our current condition.
TrickyPickle said, 4 months ago
Folks, no need to be so rabid. Calling each other names does not make your position correct. Only evidence does. And the evidence has not stated whether man made global warming is an absolute fact or not. Why not listen and offer answers instead of jumping to debasing each other?
Anthony, I’ve not seen any right-winger here claim the Earth to be any age, smoking to be healthy or any other such nonsense. For the extremists out there who may hold this position they’re just as wrong as the left wing nutjobs who embed chains in trees to injure lumberjacks.
Anandy, Darwin hasn’t succeeded or failed he merely posted his observations. He has not yet been proven right or wrong in his theories beyond any shadow of a doubt. He certainly did not have any sort of agenda. Your posts seem to have a certain paranoia that is echoed and mirrored by Anthony on the left.
DrCanuck said, 4 months ago
Danny-boy, try to distinguish the two uses of the term “warming.” Are we talking about warming the earth from absolute zero, in which case the sun is the primary warmer, or are we talking about warming the earth from its equilibrium point, in which case CO2 is the primary cause.
This argument is far more complex than your silly simplifications.
Right_On said, 4 months ago
Geez Doc … read up on sun spot activity before you post. Then you can talk about the complexity it brings to the warming equation. And if you negate sun spot raqdiation, then I know you are truly an empty suit.

DrC, you’re just making yourself look childish now. Changing the subject when you’re proven wrong? Pointing out that someone hit two adjacent keys simultaneously as a reason not to take the argument seriously? Please.
Re-read what I said, re-read your response, re-read my rebuttal. (I wouldn’t re-read your subsequent non sequitur, though.) There’s no question what I was talking about.
If we didn’t start at absolute zero within the last century, then we’re not talking about warming from absolute zero. We’re talking about warming since, oh, let’s go with the IPCC’s 1950. If the primary driving force (yes that’s what people claim it is) is man-made emissions, then a continued rise in emissions can’t be accompanied by a drop in overall temperatures. If temperatures drop, there is another force that is more significant (again, yes that’s what the IPCC claimed was not the case).
Since you mentioned equilibrium, what is the equilibrium point? When was it achieved? What’s the temperature supposed to be?
dtroutma said, 4 months ago
Sun spot activity IS a fascinating phenomenon. A really big flare will NOT however be a “cool” thing if we continue to screw up the screening effect of our atmosphere. Just put your bag of microwave popcorn on the sidewalk and go out with a “bang”? It is NOT just about CO2.

It’s all about lefties looking for yet another way to control the rest of us- to tell us what we can buy, what we can eat, where we can go, where we can live. This “Climate Change” religion- and it is a religion to these people- will give them the excuse to take away our rights, one by one, all in the name of “saving the Earth”, and anyone that protests when any of those rights are taken away will be bashed as an evil Earth hater who just selfishly wants to destroy the environment.
Of course, the big enviro-nazis, like Gore, countless super rich Hollywood celebrities, etc., will still fly around the world in their private jets, live in vast mansions- often having more than one around the world- that still use far, far more energy than the average home, even when all the light bulbs are replaced with energy efficient versions, and they’ll continue to live lives of great waste, while telling we peons to make more and more sacrifices to save the Earth!
It’s all about power, and the ultra-liberals telling us how to live while they stand above us, living their privileged lives of excess!

These last two years have been cooler than the few years before. That’s empirical science. Al Gore and the other lawyers and politicians trumpeting global warming are relying on Authority.
It’s like Galileo dropping two balls from the Pisa Tower. Both balls, though of different weights, landed at the same time—as usual. The Authorities believed their ancient Authorities, not their eyes—as usual.

Horsefeathers. I have, as have others, on numerous occasions supplied links to scientific research, and those links have been roundly ignored by the likes of you, Nandy, in favor of the “science” from the industry shills.
“As to Darwin being considered theory, you haven’t sat in a sixth-grade biology class lately.”
I have a B.S. in biochemistry and an M.D. degree, Nandy, so yes indeed, it has been a while since 6th grade. What sixth grade textbook are you relying on for your source?

Anthony,
Nandys comment doesn’t really have anything to do with textbooks. I have taught 6th grade before. ( I’ll repeat that sometime when I want a reminder of hell) Sixth graders, on average, are not capable of descerning the difference between a thoery that has no real competing scientfic alternatives and a guess. It is generally taught as fact in the classroom. As an educator, I have no real problem with this.
At the college level, I expect my students to know the difference. I don’t expect them to change their faith but they sure as hell still need to be able to explain the theory on an exam.
TrickyPickle said, 4 months ago
Anthony, if you’re referring to extremists then I wouldn’t waste my time if I were you. No amount of discussion can change that type of mind. However your comment pointed out examples of right-wing science, inclusive of both extremists and rationals. I suggest that you were exaggerating.
Yes Anandy, you can expect action to be taken on theories, when they are fairly well threshed out, have no better alternative theories and have been widely accepted. You take the best course of action by choosing the best fitting theory. To do nothing in some cases can be equally disastrous, don’t you agree?

Man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetuated. I am sick and tired of hearing that anyone who doesn’t believe in this bull is some kind of Christian Fundamentalist who thinks the earth is 6000 years old, doesn’t believe in evolution, is a flat earther, holocaust denier.
I am neither religious or Christian, though my wife is. We have never met anyone who believes the earth is 6000 years old. When/if I do, I will judge them as crazy. I believe in the theory of evolution.
Those who believe in man-made global warming are the flat earthers. If they had been around in the 1400’s, they are the ones who would be screaming that the earth is flat, that is the consensus, that the debate is over.
As a Jew, calling me a holocaust denier is beyond insulting, you f-ing nazi!
Below is a comprehensive list of articles that that dispute man-made GW. Some of them are more worthwhile reads than others. Somehow I doubt that those who believe in the religion of global warming will read any of it:

Evolution is a fact. Exactly how it occurs is the theory.
Gravity is a fact. Exactly how it occurs is the theory.
Do religious fundies like Puppy deny gravity because “it’s only a theory”, propagated by evil gravitationists? No, because it doesn’t contradict their mythology, which is the only reason they deny evolution. Has nothing to do with whether or not it’s a theory; that’s just part of their desperate rationalization.

I’m referring to the fact that if you trace the funding of the vast majority of anti-global-warming propaganda, it’ll lead to the oil companies, and those in whose interest it is to support them.

Puppy: “I’m always amazed at how little provable fact the beliefs of Humanistic Materialists are based on.”
Gee, I’m always amazed at how little provable fact the beliefs of the fundie christians are based on.
Got any?
No, of course you don’t. You just have the bible, which is unassailable fact because it’s the word of your god. How do you know that? Because it says it is?
That logic is the same as when I was counseling a sailor who was planning to marry a Philippine bar girl. “She’s a virgin”, he told me. When I asked him how this could be, he told me, “Virgins don’t lie!”
Sigh.
TrickyPickle said, 4 months ago
Anthony, does that mean that you equate Anti-global warming and Tobacco companies with the right wing, as this was the original statement I was addressing. I have not seen evidence of oil company funded anti-global warming projects. It’s easy to believe self-interested companies would manipulate data, but I’d appreciate it if you could provide evidence in the specific. Furthermore, I think you just might believe there are more fundie christians out there than can possibly exist. Maybe there are where you live. Curiosity: How many fundie christians have you folks encountered? One or two? A few? Many? And where (generally) do you live/were visiting when you did?

Tricky, if you enter “oil company global warming” into Google, you get almost 10 million results. Here’s one of them:

“Scientists’ Report Documents ExxonMobil’s Tobacco-like Disinformation Campaign on Global Warming Science

You could have Googled this yourself, y’know…
Anthony 2816
said,

Tricky, regarding the number of fundie christians, yes, they’re a minority, but they’re a very vocal minority who feel compelled to foist their ignorance on everyone, with quite a degree of success.
“Researchers compared the results of past surveys of attitudes toward evolution taken in the U.S. since 1985 and similar surveys in Japan and 32 European countries.
In the U.S., only 14 percent of adults thought that evolution was “definitely true,” while about a third firmly rejected the idea.
In European countries, including Denmark, Sweden, and France, more than 80 percent of adults surveyed said they accepted the concept of evolution.” http://tinyurl.com/n5a7m
And did you see the latest legislation in Oklahoma?
http://tinyurl.com/m8xq7f
Read that article and then tell me that christian fundies are inconsequential. Read the end of the legislation and see how you think it fits with our diverse society and church-state separation:
“NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we the undersigned elected
officials of the people of Oklahoma, religious leaders and citizens
of the State of Oklahoma, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the
world, solemnly declare that the HOPE of the great State of Oklahoma
and of these United States, rests upon the Principles of Religion
and Morality as put forth in the HOLY BIBLE; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, believers in the One True
God and His only Son, call upon all to join with us in recognizing
that “Blessed is the Nation whose God is the Lord,” and humbly
implore all who love Truth and Virtue to live above reproach in
the sight of God and man with a firm reliance on the leadership
and protection of Almighty God; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we, the undersigned, humbly call upon Holy God,
our Creator, Sustainer, and Redeemer, to have mercy on this nation,
to stay His hand of judgment, and grant a national awakening of
righteousness and Christian renewal as we repent of our great sin.”

How does one embed a chain in a tree?
Gladius said, 4 months ago
Actually spiking was the issue. You drive a metal spike into the tree deeply enough that it isn’t easily noticed. When a chain saw hits it the chain snaps and has a good chance of seriously injuring or killing the operator. Logging is already one of the most dangerous occupations out there. They didn’t need that, on top of everything else.

Puppy, I have an idea for you. It’s obviously a waste of time to present scientific reasoning to you, because you aren’t going to understand most of it, and what little you do, you’ll just deny, so let’s try this:
A popular line of “reasoning” used by fundie christians to rationalize their belief in an unprovable mythology goes like this. They’ll tell me that I should believe too, because if it were to turn out to be true, then I’d go to heaven, but if I didn’t believe, I’d go to hell. If it turned out to be false, then it wouldn’t matter either way. Therefore it makes “sense” for me to believe.
I’m sure you’re familiar with this argument; I’d be surprised if you haven’t used it on people yourself.
So consider: If you’ll believe in global warming and help get something done about it, and the world will be a better place (less polluted, more resources, less warming) if global warming is true. If you refuse to believe in it, which would lead to more pollution, less resources, and greater warming, then our planet becomes a firey hell.
And if there is no such thing as global warming, then your efforts and belief will still make the planet better (less polluted, more resources)!
So there’s no reason for you not to believe in it, explained in a way that should make perfect sense to you.
churchillwasright said, 4 months ago

Yet in the name of your global warning religion, I will be forced to spend thousands on my house to bring it up to California’s “ecological standards” before I can sell it.
