What is the problem conservatives have with Obama and telepromters? Every president since at least Johnson have used them.

Irish Prime Minster read 20 seconds of BHO’s preceding speech before he realized he’d heard it before.

tracht - The problem is that the media, etc. keep commenting on & bragging about what an eloquent speaker he is. However, he stumbles when he does not have his teleprompters & supposedly now insists on traveling with them. In reality - he is an eloquent READER….most likely an eloquent reader of someone else’s words!!

This toon, what a load of crap. When I think of that buffoon, bush. Barack needs no teleprompter. McCoy seems to not know his subject matter. Barack is kown to be a great orator. No matter how many toons he makes, McMcoy is an A S S .

This is a great one! Obama’s going to end up telling his daughters two different stories though.
tracht47 said, 8 months ago
anng628… with all due respect, that is nonsense. Have you heard him answering questions at these town hall meetings? He is eloquent, thoughtful, and able to discuss complex issues. You don’t have to agree with him on the issues to admit that he has a sharp mind.
hungryraptor said, 8 months ago
Public speaking is hard. With that said anng628 is correct. Everytime he attempts to go it without a teleprompter he fumbles 200 times more than Bush ever did. He is a great speech presenter while reading…but we end up with 55 states when is goes on his own.
Machado said, 8 months ago
Just saw him on Leno, the interview wasn’t bad, but he stutters, and at times can’t find the right words…(even though the questions are screened)
with the prompters he is a great actor indeed….
anng628 said, 8 months ago
….and he apparently blew it on Leno last night with the “Special Olympics” comment!

anng628, duh what is the purpose of them peoples called speech writers?
etocme said, 8 months ago
If we are being honest, I do have to say that everytime George W made a speech I would hold my breath hoping he wouldn’t screw up too often….and that was with a teleprompter.
cdward said, 8 months ago
With due respect to everyone, you act as if Obama were the only president to use teleprompters. They’ve been around a long time, and Reagan was a master of them (talk about actors). Furthermore, if you’re going to criticize a stutter or all of his “ums” in unscripted dialog, that is pathetically shallow. Listen to the ideas being expressed. Agree or disagree with them, but to harp on the delivery is beneath respect.

claudermilk said, 8 months ago
What a bunch of foolishness. How about looking at an actual issue? Enough with the red herrings.
fennec said, 8 months ago
I have to assume that all these posters criticizing Obama’s use of teleprompters have never done any formal public speaking. Whether it’s a lecture in front of a university class, a sermon in front of a congregation, a presentation for a professional meeting or whatever, you do your audience a grave disservice if you are not prepared with a formal speech and notes (which is what the teleprompter is for, after all). Otherwise, you are wasting their time.
nikdangr said, 8 months ago
An essential feature of a decent political cartoonist is the willingness to skewer political figures of all persuasions. McCoy is a one-trick pony. If he can’t ridicule a liberal, he’s not interested.
hungryraptor said, 8 months ago
Every modern day President has used speech writers. Every Liberal made fun of Bush when he would stumble or foul up a word. In order to sit here and say Obama sounds eloquent and presidential when off a teleprompter can only mean one lives in OZ.
tracht47 said, 8 months ago
The reason for telepromptors is so that the speaker appears to be looking at the audience rather than constantly looking at his notes. Does anybody here think presidents have the time to memorize their speeches? And speaking off the cuff, I still maintain Obama is one of the best.
hungryraptor said, 8 months ago
tracht47…”Obama is one of the best” you mean like “I bowl like I’m in the Special Olympics”?
Obama is a credit to affirmative action, that’s it.

Let’s compare the number of websites and books devoted to Obama’s gaffes, and compare them to Bush’s.
That is, as soon as any arise.
hungryraptor said, 8 months ago
You mean like
www.obamasgaffes.blogspot.com
or the Times Sun website?
or giving the British Prime a gift of CDs that don’t work in Europe?

Obama is able to deal with complex issues in those town meetings. He thinks a bit before he speaks which accounts for the “um” moment. He is out there taking on the tough issues and if conservatives make fun of him, next time, they should try doing it.

To deflect damage The Prez already released an apology for his ‘Special Olympics” remarks.
You see Boyz and Girlz that’s what happens when you forget the prompter…
and by the way, I’m not defendinmg Bush’s gaffs, he was not a good public speaker, and besides, given the microscope all Prez find themselves under, they are bound to make mistakes..
what I aim to point out is the double standard coming from the left-nuts…
anng628 said, 8 months ago
I think that the only reason conservatives even mention BO gaffes is because libs have done nothing but ridicule Bush & BRAG what an eloquent speaker BO is. He can do no wrong in the eyes of the libs. However, we are here to snap you libs back to reality. BO is not perfect!!!! WE don’t expect him to be & we are tired of you cramming his “eloquence” down our throats. We just want him to do what is right for America. Right now - we are still waiting.

There’s no double-standard. Obama is an excellent public speaker, and comes across as intelligent. Bush could barely get out a paragraph without flubbing, and came across like an idiot.
Everyone will make a few errors, but Bush went way beyond that, both in amusing gaffes and damage to the nation.
Given that Obama has the unenviable task of cleaning up the incredible mess Bush left behind, I think he’s doing remarkably well. We just have to accept the fact that there are no quick fixes, and there are no surefire fixes.
hungryraptor said, 8 months ago
Anthony 2816
The argument is amazing that Bush has everything dropped on his shoulders. Did he make mistakes, yes. There was a democratic congress and previous presidents also. Bush runs a $500 billion deficit over his last four years and libs blast him. Obama runs a 1.8 trillion dollar deficit in his first 3 months and it is called necessary.
Doesn’t matter how often you say it Obama is not eloquent…his speech writers made him look that way. Without a teleprompter he is a train wreck that is guaranteed to happen. Was Bush a great talker…no. Obama is the most un-presidential president I have ever seen.

I don’t like using children to make a point about a politician … think harder to make your point without using his two little girls, McCoy.
(and please note, I’ve said Bristol Palin should be left alone too, even though her mother put her much more in the public spotlight, and has continued to do so with media appearances.)

Muchadoodoo states “To deflect damage The Prez already released an apology for his ‘Special Olympics” remarks. What I aim to point out is the double standard coming from the left-nuts…”
How about the double standard of Sarah Palin calling out Obama’s remark on Special Olympics ( which he mentioned as an event, not as a slap to the retarded ) and yet she is refusing needed $ from the stimulus package FOR Special Education!

I didn’t like it when the left pilloried Bush for his lack of communicative skills and I don’t like it the right claims the same against Obama.
No.1., It’s a non-issue
2., The voters voted for the guy(s) with whatever speech-ifying skills he has or doesn’t have,
3. He could come out and rap like Ice-T and that would only help him…so who cares?!!!

I suppose you also wish Mr. Obama take the same short distance walk into H2O since he has made fun of the disabled a few days ago and ridiculed an ailing Nancy Regan last year. How about his “typical white person” comment? It is amazing the double standard some have here. The only difference between my comment and Obamas is before I open my mouth I know what I am going to say is something I want others to hear…and I don’t apologize for things I mean like Obama does.
