The difference being that W went out there and found the flock of birds so he could joyride through it. And if you count up the warnings about al Qaeda that he blew off, the concerns about Katrina that didn’t concern him and the lies he told to justify finishing his Daddy’s war, the claim that he “kept everyone alive” is not just foolishly inapplicable but a criminally ignorant statement.

That’s apart from perhaps a million Iraqis and over four thousand US soldiers. No concern of McCoy though - he approves of slaughter.

Stretching the meaning of the word “everyone” to the limits.

I find it somewhat ironic that a liberal would even look at a McCoy cartoon. But that’s what a political cartoon is supposed to do: invite criticism, no matter what political persuasion one is. Mr. McCoy has accomplished his goal. What would be even more ironic is if a liberal person would cough up money for one of his book of cartoons.

You really want to talk about jetliners in New York as a metaphor for the Bush Presidency? Kept everyone alive - except for the 3,000 in the WTC and the Pentagon. And the 4,000 soldiers dead in Iraq. And the (minimum) 100,000 Iraqi civilians dead. BIG DEAL!!

Good point Ian!
I love how righties cling to this… and forget that he was on vacation a lot in 2001.

Of course, most of the Iraqi dead were killed by other Iraqis or by the terrorist influx from nearby nations, and since we’re not fighting an army the insurgents get mixed into the “civilian” count. And they were killed in similar numbers to what Saddam’s regime killed over the same amount of time. That’s not to diminish the human loss, but Bush didn’t kill them.
He kept Americans safe after 9/11, but the complaint is that he didn’t do the same around the world. Yet every step he took elsewhere in the world his detractors said he shouldn’t meddle in foreign affairs.
EVERYONE expected further attacks after 9/11. They didn’t happen. That is due largely to actions of the Bush administration, particularly in reorganizing our intelligence agencies. If you think “they” haven’t tried or aren’t trying to attack us, you’re a fool. It does not excuse all the ills of his presidency, but for that one monumental success he deserves at least some credit.

The “birds” that gnawed on the wires of the economic engine and brought down the plane while Bush was at the helm are well-known to many observers. They are the Henpecking Pelosi, the Yellow-Bellied Reid, Barney Cockafrank, the Dodd-Dodd Bird, the Kerry Vulture, the Screeching Dean, the Squawking Hillary, Toucan Bill, the Goreguin, the Macaw Hussein Canary and the Kos Parrots, which have a genetic deficiency rendering them unable to Move-On for the winter. If you see any of these pests in your neighborhood please notify the nearest exterminator immediately. And remember, a flock of dirty birds in Congress is worth more than one Bush in the presidency!

LOL JJ, Good job! Toon: Actually, keeping us safe is his first and only job - and the obligation of his office - I wonder if that was his main concern?

So..if he kept us safe…where’s the long list of attacks that were stopped? Where are all the convicted terrorists? I agree with the tiger repellant metaphor. Yes, 9/11 was a serious attack and a serious concern, but I think it is extremely debatable just how effective the current administration has been, and as has been said over and over, at what price?
Few people in the world are truly better off for George W’s interference. And I KNOW I am not one of them. Good bye and good riddance.

Let’s see…for his first 9 months, Bush ignored all the intel about Al Qaeda attacking us using airliners, and instead concentrated on his preconceived attack on Iraq (“They tried to kill my daddy!).
After the attack, he pulled resources away from Afghanistan and diverted them to the first unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation in our country’s history.
The result? Bin Laden is still alive, and Al Qaeda received a recruiting and public relations boon beyond their wildest imaginations.
Yeah, what a great president.
danTheForth said, 10 months ago
The ‘toon isn’t saying he’s a great president, only that he did something right. And that intelligence he “ignored”… what was he supposed to do with it? It said that Al Qaeda was determined to attack in the US. Do we shut down the country? They were going to use airplanes. Do we shut down air travel? It wasn’t specific intelligence - just general. And most of it was available to the previous administration as well. Neither administration had enough to act on.
As to the “tiger repellent,” let’s not forget we actually had a “tiger” right in our house, and the tigers said they were coming back.
Where’s the list of foiled attacks? Why would the government publish such a thing? There’s already enough talk about politics of fear; it would only be worse if we knew how much we had to fear. I work in a job where I have access to a very low-level weekly report of suspicious incidents from the TSA. If the traveling public knew some of the stuff on there, we’d all be afraid to fly.
Corosive Frog said, 10 months ago
What would the GOP would do without fear? what would they dowithout the 9/11 boogieman?
On t’as protégé de tout, mais on t’a pas protégé de nous. (We protected you from everything, but we didn’t protect you from us)
(it’s a line I heard in a tune somewhere)
InspectorWingnut said, 10 months ago
Humphries are you looking for wisdom?
That was only my first or second comment of the day and may be a little foggy, I believe I was agreeing with you about keeping America safe - It’s hard to take “Special” credit for something he was supposed to do anyway. But If you think that is foolish (the opposite of wisdom) I wont argue.
