Love the sleeping kid with the iPod. How far away is Central, anyway? I would say it’s Dinny, but he never stops talking long enough to go to sleep.

5-4-3 ballgame. I hope The ’Larks put Hard Knox in the equipment bag for the ride home.

I thought he was dancing, but without the motion lines, I guess not.

I’m surprised all these kids aren’t plugged into some kind of device, just to keep from listening to Knox.

Where did the phrase “round the horn” come from? I’ve heard it all my life, never understood.

Really, Jimmy. Lighten up. It’s not like you MAIMED SOMEONE LIKE YOUR DAD DID.

Yeah, relax Jimmy. It’s not like Milford ever makes the playdowns in any sport. We’ll play out the string like we always do and then go enjoy our summer.

Baseball, as we know it, originated around the time of the Civil War, well before the construction of the Panama Canal. To sail from San Francisco to New York pre-canal entailed a very long voyage around the tip of South America, Cape Horn. Ergo, a 5-6-3 is essentially a relay throw ‘Around the Horn’. I actually witnessed a major league 3-6-5 double play. I assume they are as scarce as peacock teeth.

Actually it’s a 5-4-3 double play around the horn. 5-6-3 would be third to short to first. Shortstop usually doesn’t cover second on a ball hit to third.
