    I wish someone would explain these to me. I’m still in the dark about what is apparently a political writing convention now. The only thing that comes to me is the old blue laws. Which basically meant that anything that was or could be construed as having fun was illegal.

    No, actually it was created by NBC, or CBS some years ago during Election night coverage during a Presidential election. They had a big wall map behind the Anchor desk, and when a state went Democratic, it lit up Blue, and when it went Republican, it lit up Red.
    No real meaning behind the colors, it was just made to look exciting on T.V., and to give viewers instant identification of how what state voted which direction.
