I think I’d pray and stomp on the gas both. Then stop suddenly.

What’s funny about this is that I’ve almost run over a half-grown cougar near Forks, California. In a 5 speed Jeep while checking out harvest units.

It has something to do with respecting those older than us. We all need to learn it because if we’re lucky, we will live long enough to be those older people meriting the respect some day.

I do not like this “Mr Walt” title business..
Where is the two-way respect ?

Gertie is a paid (I think) caregiver.

Calling someone “Mr {firstname}” is not uncommon and not disrespectful. It is a form of address to an elder and it is a form of address from a domestic to an employer.

In the area where I grew up Mr. First-name was a form of familiarity and respect. Usually felt over several generations.

Plus, the strip’s dialogue is in verse form, so saying “Mr. Walt” is in keeping with the meter.
